I overslept a bit that day, turned on the TV and the news stations were confused about the first plane hitting, as to what exactly happened. Then, a couple of minutes later, I saw the second plane hit "live".

My brother saw the first plane hit in person, from about 6 blocks away, while he was walking to work.
