Any Texans here planning to volunteer in a swing state on election day?
I'm trying to decide if I should stay here or work in a swing state (probably New Mexico).

I'll post something in the TX forum, but thought I might get more responses in GD04.

1. What can I do?
I live in Austin, far away from either Arkansas or New Mexico. I do have tio work for about 4 hours on Nov. 2, so ideas are appreciated.

2. Phone bank from home/swing states
Campaign Tonight Right From Your Own Home
Want to do some serious campaigning for John Kerry and John Edwards tonight, right from your own home?

Then sign up for our Phone Corps and start calling Kerry supporters in swing states and turn them into Kerry volunteers!

http://calls.johnkerry.com

As a member of the Phone Corps, you can sit down at your computer and we'll send you a short list of people to call, people who've already told us they're Kerry supporters. You will have a simple script to explain the importance of getting volunteers to join our door-to-door canvass in their state. So no matter what state you're in, you can recruit new campaign volunteers.

Some people have asked why these door-to-door visits are important. The answer is straightforward. Door-to-door visits are the most effective form of voter contact. Canvass volunteers are visiting two kinds of voters: infrequent Democratic voters and undecided voters. Many studies have shown that face-to-face contact with a supporter makes it far more likely that an infrequent voter will make it to the polls. And it is by far the best way to get information to undecided voters that can tip the balance.

Today and tonight we're calling OH, PA, WV, and NV. These are all states that have great canvass operations and are absolutely critical to winning this election.

So please sign up tonight and start calling. Help us recruit enough volunteers to meet the nationwide goal of knowing on one million doors this Saturday!

3. If you have to work on election day
you can do something in Austin, would probably be best. Pollwatchers are needed ... you only have to watch for 5 hours. Call the D party office and see if someone down there is organizing pollwatching. Or, rides to polls, GOTV calls, etc.

4. I know some people are working in a swing state...
it would be a good thing to do. I'll be going to Texarkana the week before myself. Day off, I am going to be an election judge in my precinct, which has to be done by a resident of the precinct, so I'm staying close to home.

(Sorry, I just had to say it again. Election judge! Wooo!)
