Blatant appeal to Security Moms led off the local news tonight
The whole story was on the education department's announcement today about increased terror threats to our schools. One local school superintendent spent several minutes talking about what measures they were taking to protect our kids from terrorists. How low will they go???

They will excavate a whole new bottom.

And if there is no such thing as "security moms", perhaps they have simply discovered that women with children frighten more easily -- particularly where those children are concerned. On some level it is much the same thing.

8. But that's the thing. Moms don't necessarily frighten easily.
Not in a way that will make them vote for the shrub.

Everything I've read and heard suggests that women with children are much more concerned about the damage the shrub is causing (to the environment and the economy, for instance) than any possible terror threat. And even if they were worried about terror, where is the proof that they would be stupid enough to think that the shrub will protect them better than a war hero?

It's pure propaganda. The neocons think that by claiming that women with children are voting for Bush*, they will convince women with children to vote for Bush*.

9. Certainly it is propaganda of some form.
We know this because it sounds like propaganda -- and it is on the "news" -- so it is suspect from the start. We also know this because it is an appeal to fear -- and this is a neo strategy.

But I am not sure that this propaganda does not reach some audience. I could easily imagine that the media people putting this out, for example, might actually fall for it (in some part and numbers).

These neos do research, test-run stuff, etc, etc. Sometimes, if only by chance, they will get it right.

But, yeah, it's propaganda and we should slap it down.

Still one can't help wonder if there isn't some basis -- besides neo self-delusion.

3. Security moms are a myth. There ARE no security moms.
So the administration is trying to appeal to IMAGINARY people. Not a good strategy.

4. All the moms I know
are *Economic* security moms. We need to put food on our families, you know? Jobless spouses are a reality, the terra boogieman is a distracion and we know it.

The Bushies think we're dumb as hell and just want some man to protect us and our kids. Cheney that!

14. the Kerry campaign should capitalize on this.
There needs to be an AD:

Black and white, evil looking Bush picture
NARRATOR: This man just let the assault weapons ban run out.

flashing newspaper headlines of terror threats to schools, quotes by Bush himself that our schools may not be safe
NARRATOR: Two weeks later, we find out terrorists may be targeting our childrens' schools.

picture of terrorist holding an assault weapon
NARRATOR: George Bush caved in to special gun interests while ignoring the safety of your children.

black and white fuzzy picture of Bush again
NARRATOR: George Bush...out of touch with America, out of touch with the world.

Aides admit Bush stoking fears of terrorism for political gain
by John in DC - 10/7/2004 02:42:32 PM

UPDATE: I cannot believe this. The Bushies have just issued a terror warning about, you guessed it, Al Qaeda is coming to kill your kids in school. Gee, isn't it an amazing coincidence that the polls showed just a few weeks ago that "security moms" were freaked about the Russian school killings and that such security moms were more prone to vote for Bush because of the killings. And now we have the Bushies telling America's moms, out of the blue, once Bush's numbers are falling, that Al Qaeda is coming after your pre-schooler. No warning on this 7 WEEKS AGO WHEN THE KILLINGS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. No, the warning comes now, right before the election. These guys are scum.

12. This is exactly why Kerry has to bring up BCCI.
He will lose if he doesn't start talking about this. Period. Bushler will raise the turrrrrr alerts until enough people are scared, as long as they percieve Kerry is weak on terror.
