How do we get through to the active duty military who support *?
I was just listening to Mike Malloy on AAR, and a military wife called in to express her frustration with the fact that there is so much support for Chimp on her base. I'm a veteran myself and I share her pain. I know that the military is predominately conservative but come on! I was at a party with a newly enlisted guy in the Air Force who says he's voting * because he was told they were going to give him a pay raise. I was in the Navy from 1987 to 1997 and I got raises under Bush I and Clinton. And he cut combat pay for troops in Iraq! It's so aggravating. And don't get me started on that Smear Boat crap...

1. show them this
http://www.elitestv.com/pub/2004/Sep/EEN41530016714c3.html

A good story to show what's really going on in some soldiers' minds!

Seriously, I think that most military personnel believe in the "tough" image. Bush has pandered to people who admire this image since 9/11. He wants to be the person that insecure people look up too, and Rove has done a good job at making that so.

Ask them to watch the fist debate and see who the true coWard is.

7. That site cuts through me like a knife

You read what those troops are suffering through and then you find out that Cpl. Johnson has to pay back $3000 from his bonus despite having massive injuries. I want Kerry to bring this up at the debate. I'm going to email the Kerry campaign right now.

3. It just kills me
Even retired military still agree with this bozo. I SWEAR they inject recruits with an anti-democratic serum, along with the antrax vaccine, etc.

5. Oh they do
I managed to develop liberal ideas despite the indoctrination but I rarely expressed them.

4. Michael Moore's new book with letters from soldiers in Iraq
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 11:56 PM by ocelot
could change almost anybody's mind, if they could be persuaded to read it. I know a lot of ex-military people, many with freeper tendencies, but most of those were REMFs who never saw combat on the ground. I guess it's a lot easier to wave the flag and kiss B*sh's ass if you aren't the guy getting shot at -- and it makes me sick. Moore's book is "Will They Ever Trust Us Again?" It made me want to scream and throw things and personally drag B*sh before a war crimes tribunal where he belongs.

6. If they want to vote against their own best interests,
they are obviously kool-aid drinkers and there's nothing much you can do. However, when chimp supporters complain about pay, benefits, etc, be sure to ask them 'well, who did you vote for?' and if they say 'Bush', then say 'well, you got what you wanted!'

8. I don't think it's possible.
I've tried everything with my father (retired AF) from gentle persuasion (What do you think about General Wesley Clark?) to castigation (What are you thinking? Don't you see how the * administration disrespects you?)

My parents are in a time warp and fundi-Christo mind fuck.

The time warp is that loose lips sink ships. They don't get it when I protest against the war. I don't want our troops to have to die for this lie. Good God, I respect them for their service, but it should not be under these circumstances. My parents don't even question THAT. I'm the bad guy for breaking ranks and saying, "wait a minute."

The fundi mentality is impenetrable.

They profess to love me and yet they will vote for a regime that wants to make me (their gay son) a second class citizen with the only amendment to the Constitution that excludes rights.

We are now dead to each other thanks to the propaganda of our "not a divider" Dear Leader*.

So, dramatic statements like "you can love the sinner, but hate the sin and I'm supposed to be a second class citizen" don't work. They are such Christian martyrs that they will accept the cut in their veteran benefits, bitch about their Medicare costs and not give a hoot about understanding the * connection.

To be fair, I'm the one that finally blew it up by summarizing their positions with "they say you can't go home again, so why the Cheney would I want to?" I wonder if I'll even be notified of their funerals since I also copied my two freeper siblings in my reply.

Sorry that this response is so "Dear Diary,"but it is one aspect of how not to win that particular vote and still live with yourself.
