Bernie Ward just said on his show that he predicts a Bush win
"My second prediction, and this is going to tick people off: Bush wins."

His first prediction: It's NOT going to be close.

1. I'm stunned - should I be?
Either way, what a reality check. All this euphoria for the past week and then to see that in black and white. Man!

Or just this time?

I don't know who he is, but do know he's capable of being wrong.

...worried about Kerry getting the popular vote and Bush stealing the election a second time. He made those two brief comments and moved on to the next topic.

10. He thinks JK will win pop. vote, then said Bush could win EC.
I don't take this as any serious prediction by Bernie. He's just thinking out loud. Kinda like saying pessimistically, "Yeah, Bush will someway steal the election" even if you think JK in a landslide.

11. He's saying it again right now
Kerry's still hangin' around at three points behind, people vote for the guy they know, etc etc etc.

He's serious about Bush winning tonight, or I'm missing the meaning of what he is literally saying.

13. He's been pessimistic for awhile
Before Kerry's sudden surge, he was very pessimistic and said Bush would win, because he felt that no Democrats had the guts to go after Bush. This was especially true after the Democratic Convention. I thought that after Kerry's strong debate performance he had changed his mind. I guess not.

16. He just said:
...that Bush will deliver a strong performance in tomorrow night's debate because he can exercise "style points" in a format that works best for him.

Quotes, as fast as I could type:

"I think this format favors Bush. I think he's going to attack Kerry's senate record. He's going to be moving around the stage, he's going to look fatherly, and can Kerry give that same "aw shucks" thing? He won;t win on some of the topics. He'll win on style."

21. I don't agree...
I saw a clip of Bush's so-called Mulligan speech, in which he supposedly tried to redeem himself over the debate debacle. Bush was READING everything he said.. and he STILL fucked it up. That was a friendly crowd, hand-picked crowd, prepared statement, and he still came off out of touch and confused. AND.. had to read even the most basic points off cue cards.

If Karl Rove can't give him his little index cards, Bush can't function. I know that Bush is smacking Rove right now.. saying.. " I can't FUCKING believe you agreed to THREE debates! I'm NOT going! YOU go!"

37. "He needs the cards and a friendly audience"
He also needs 6 days to come up with a rebuttal, and he needs Kerry not to be in the room when he gives it. C'mon people, Bush has fired both barrels, and all he got was two little flags that say "bang!". He's got nothing left. The news this week didn't help him out, either. Bush's only hope to turn things around is his old friend Karl. Watch out for some dirty pool tonight.

33. I think Bernie is just disillusioned right now...
...which doesn't make him an ideal source of inspiration for anyone who wants to stay focused on a Kerry victory.

I spoke to him during Wednesday night's show. That's when he shared the "Bush will be the winner of Friday's debate" stuff with me, and he repeated it last night.

He's at a frustration point, as many of us are: with the OVERWHELMING evidence against this administration, for Bush to not only have a + or - 50% approval rating and a CHANCE at re-election is ludicrous.

I don't know. Part of the DU crowd consistently says "if you're going to post something negative, don't post anything at all," the other part wants to know all sides. If I were to fall back on my tenure at this site I would say that one group, if they were to listen to Bernie's show right now, would mercilessly bitch-slap him and attempt to silence him (or simply place him on "ignore"), while the other would get him to discuss his concerns and see if there is any way to turn him around, to give him a little positive energy and re-engage his fighting spirit...to NOT just become dejected and "accept the inevitable"...two stolen elections in a row. I have seen BOTH forms of behavior here when people get caught in the "vortex of despair."

I made the Bernie Ward post because his show gets a free plug from DU every day that it's on, and if he's a "recommended voice" of Skinner & Crew, there is great significance in the fact that this voice feels that the American voting public will hem and haw over who to vote for up until election day, will vote for Bush because they "know" him, will not admit that they have been screwed by the president, do not feel safer and yet DO feel "safe" because Bush TELLS them he has MADE them safe...

The NO WMD reports come out, Bush and Cheney DENY the truth, then ACCEPT the truth and say they did the right thing anyway, THEN, when the public rejects THAT, they cake-walk over to the "REAL" reason we went to war..."Saddam was profiting from the weapons for food program," and Junior struts and stumps from one campaign stop to another, chest thrown out, drunk or high or both and stumbling over his words like Captain Queeg on crack and the flight suit probably stuffed in the trunk of the limo in case he needs it in an emergency...and WE ARE STILL DISCUSSING WHETHER OR NOT THIS DICK IS GOING TO GET A SECOND TERM.

So yeah, Bernie is down. Maybe DUers can call him, engage in a dialog, get him pumped back up...he's a good guy, a strong voice for the views expressed here, and he seems to be really tired of watching the Connecticut Cowboy and his henchman Evil Dick get away with bloody murder while the American public stands calmly by.

14. I don't know how he figured that, I hope it wasn't from a poll.
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 01:28 AM by life_long_dem
I am so sick of seeing all these polls. How can you get a fair cross-section of the public when they only poll like 267 likely voters? It doesn't even count as far as I'm concerned. But in our household the vote is: KERRY 100% Bush 0% Registered voters-2

See what I mean? Now if they were to poll 40,000 people then maybe it would be close. But, it really doesn't matter until the Nov. 2nd poll. GO KERRY/EDWARDS

19. Too bad - he's one of Bush's strongest and most astute critics
Bernie Ward is extremely well-informed and is a very powerful voice against Bush. When Zell Miller attacked Kerry's record at the Repuke Convention, Bernie came on that night and for about 3 or 4 minutes rattled off example after example where Miller was misconstruing Kerry's record, verifying that Kerry DID support many defense programs, or didn't support those for obsolete weapons systems, or where other prominent Republicans had been even less inclined than Kerry to support military spending after the cold war.

26. I guess he didn't see C-Span today.
The electoral college vote according to C-Span now has Kerry only 30 behind. Before the debate Kerry was almost a hundred.

There was a 70 point state swing to Kerry since the debate. Bush losing 30---Kerry gaining 40. And states that were completely red before are tied.

Guess he didn't get the memo. And I'm talking about C-Span. They were driving me crazy with the negative numbers up until today.

Now I saved the dessert for last. The reporter says new polls are coming out tomorrow that may put KERRY in the lead in the electoral college for the first time in over two months. A QUOTE.

36. I laugh myself crazy every time I listen to Ray Taliaferro
I guess it's because I'm not used to hearing long tirades blasting Bush coming from my AM radio. I can't believe there's actually someone on the radio shouting that George Bush an "evil little turd", a "pile of filthy crap", a "douchebag", or some of the other names that Taliaferro calls Bush on a continual basis throughout each of his shows. And I love the way Taliaferro blasts any BushDroolers who call up his station, cutting them off and shouting at them that they are "idiots" and "imbeciles". I know Taliaferro is way over the top about Bush, impatient, and rude with conservatives who call him, but aren't Democrats entitled to have at least one guy like this, given conservative nuts like Savage, Rush and InsHannity?

Dems on the other hand, have been registering more voters. We just
have to get them to the polls.
