September job growth weaker
Gain of 96,000 jobs slows from August, misses economists forecasts.
October 8, 2004: 8:33 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - U.S. employers added 96,000 jobs in September while the unemployment rate stayed unchanged, according to a government report Friday that came in weaker than Wall Street expectations.

The Labor Department's much anticipated reading on the labor market showed a slower pace of hiring than the revised reading of 128,000 jobs added in August. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com found a consensus forecast of 150,000 new jobs, while Reuters' survey found a range of estimates from a 10,000 job loss to a 200,000 gain.

The unemployment rate came in at 5.4 percent, in line with economists' consensus forecast.

5. ben ginsburg said 150K last night on Hardball.
He also said he expected prior month's numbers to be revised upward, so the final number would be closer to 200K.

13. Maybe the numbers I stated came from kudlow.
When I think about it now, the number I remember hearing from ginsburg is the unemployment number. The other numbers probably did come from kudlow.

It was there a few minutes ago -- big banner with 300,000. They pulled it and now have a small banner with 96,000. WTF?

12. It Was Probably Pre-Written Using...
some shills' rosy numbers. Then they ran it on cue without waiting for the actual numbers. Typical media BS.

14. I was truly shocked to see that the NYT reported this as an above..
the line item on their webspace. No article as I type, but the first thing that I see is

"NEWS ALERT
U.S. Economy Added 96,000 Jobs in September, Less Than Expected (8:30 AM ET)"

http://www.nytimes.com/

Rats leaving at sinking ship?
