4. Yeah, and we have a dam named after him, geez.
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 07:56 AM by nemdaille
My grandmother didn't care for his wife because she wore a pinky ring when she came to the dedication of the dam.

Appropos of nothing, guess I'm just in the mood to ramble.

edited to add: some in my family still call it Boulder Dam.

8. Comparing Bush to Hoover? That's terrible.
That's a awful thing to say about Herbert Hoover. You owe him an apology.

Hoover was a capable administrator and a man of impeccable integrity. Hoover would have made a fine president at almost any time in US history except during the Great Depression. Even then, he made an attempt to get passed his ideology of rugged individualism, clearly at odds with the situation, and do something, even if it was too little too late. Bush would stick to his plan, no matter how obvious a failure it is, and let more people starve.

Bush is an incompetent and an imbecile. He and his administration are so crooked that they can't even go to war and overthrow the likes of Saddam without turning it into a major scandal. Bush is the spoiled rich kid who thinks the world owes him respect just for his pedigree. He doesn't think he stole the White House four years because he thinks it should have been handed to him on a silver platter.

9. Actually Hoover was a capable administrator - mostly just unlucky
He was great at logistics and probably did more to save people in Europe from starvation after WWI and WWII than anybody else. But he inherited an economic bubble headed for a trainwreck in 1929 and didn't have the political skills to know how to deal with the mess. But, unlike the current resident - he actually knew how to do things.

12. Prosperity is just around the corner
Herbert Hoover's campaign slogan, 1932.

Sounds a lot like the economy has turned the corner in 2004, doesn't it?

14. Does anyone have an image of any campaign paraphenalia from that time
It would be so fun to see that juxtaposed with some of the current campaign materials.
