No... way worse. Like other DUers, I got a feeling 2000 was just practice. Just today, Duval told black civil rights leaders to take a hike. (link below w/ more links) Expect worse on election day.

IMHO, a massive civil rights protest in FLA is all that can save FLA. Our own October Suprise. Yeah, it's post hurricane but screw it. What did "polite" get us last time? Can we really count on stacked state courts? Thoughts anyone?

Maybe a way to proceed would be to show solidarity with the black community -- let them know that America has their back. Maybe flood Jesse Jackson, Russell Simmons and Al Sharpton with emails about "FLA concerns". Thoughts?

1. The Dem Party is organizing and training
lawyers in every county of the state to observe the polls and be ready to react to problems. Hopefully, it will help

5. Don't we need lawyers down there immediately?
And in Ohio, and, I assume, elsewhere?

6. I'm here - going to a training session next weekend.
I believe that most of the lawyers that have volunteered are residents of Florida.

9. Oh -- I was thrown off by another DU volunteer lawyer...
who was going to be assigned outside his/her home state (which is probably not "swing"). Thanks so much for lending your professional expertise, which, I have a feeling, will be needed!

8. Lawyers, Lawyers everywhere
Do you really think the DNC is going into Election 2004 without a regiment of nasty lawyers? Don't worry, they're on it. What is needed is a connection between ground folks (precinct captains and poll workers) on election day who can call for help if they start to see patterns of people being turned away at the polls. If that will help.

HOWEVER. My view is that Kerry must give up on Florida and win decisively in the battleground states. Florida is as crooked as it gets, and the chaos resulting from the hurricanes is nothing but an asset for troublemakers...

10. You know, I was voicing the same pessimistic Florida view...

to one of my daughters today -- that Jeb would find a way to deliver the electoral votes again to his brother, no matter what, and maybe we should just write it off. She said: NO! -- I want it for history -- If he does that, I want it for history that they had to steal it twice.

11. I hope Florida's history isn't written that way...
but I really think it's rotten to the core. These bastards would rather win an election in Florida than strengthen democracy in our own nation. Kind of like building schools in Iraq but letting our kids go to school in trailers here....

2. So Bush won Duval with 60% of the votes AFTER they threw out
27,000 votes in the minority precincts.
There were 291,000 votes cast.
That's nearly 10%. TEN FUCKING PERCENT!!!

7. It took two hours to get ballots from the minority precincts to
the elections office. Plenty of time to run a big pin through a stack of blank cards, for * of course, or just disqualify the original cards with a double vote.

3. I like the idea of a march in Jacksonville
Black Jacksonville residents really got the worst of the voter supression and fraud, with very little publicity by the media.

As far as the DNC lawyers go, the ones that I saw in 2000 were total wimps and useless.

4. Good idea. It would be a nice bookend to the RNC protest. I laugh
at all this lawsuit talk in FLORIDA and OHIO. It's BS.
