I guess we'll be hearing about the "Household Income Survey" tonight
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 08:23 AM by yellowcanine
The jobs report of 96,000 jobs - about 54,000 fewer than needed to just "break even", not to mention that we are still "in the hole" since * took office will probably somehow be spun as good news by * tonight - "Just today we see that more jobs are being created, blah, blah, blah." But I suspect * will dust off the old chestnut of "Household Incomes Survey" - which neocons love to cite as somehow being a better measure than the official one we have relied on for the last 50 years or so.

3. Please do not compare * to Herbert Hoover. I knew Herbert Hoover,
Herbert Hoover was a friend of mine. George bush is no Herbert Hoover. Just kidding, but actually Hoover was an accomplished man who could get things done and did much to save Europeans from starving after both WWI and WWII. However he was a lousy politician and did not know how to lead when the economic bubble he inherited burst. The better comparison to Herbert Hoover is actually Jimmy Carter. Both Hoover and Carter went on after defeat to make major contributions to the U.S. and the world.

6. GOP's favorite jobs report-Household survey-shows 585000 jobs lost in Sept
Household Jobs show disaster-labor force drops 1 million, job loss of 585K

The GOP's favorite DOL jobs number, the Household survey number, shows bigger Job disaster than shown in the anemic 96,000 jobs gain in the payroll survey jobs number. The Household Survey reports 201,000 lost jobs in September since 139,681,000 were "seasonal adjusted" employed in Aug less 139,480,000 of Seasonal adjusted folks Employed in Sept., and that is a drop of 201,000 jobs. If you prefer numbers that are not seasonally adjusted, then 140,226,000 less 139,641,000, or 585,000 jobs were lost in Sept.

And that Steady 5.4% Unemployment rate is based on folks no longer being in the labor pool and therefore not counted as unemployed. The seasonal adjusted change is from 147,704,000 looking for work or employed in August to 147,483,000 looking for work or employed in Sept, or 221,000 folks dropped out. If you like non-seasonally adjusted numbers, then 148,166,000 less 147,186,000, or a huge 980,000 folks stopped looking for work or being employed in Sept.

NEARLY ONE MILLION FOLKS STOPPED LOOKING FOR WORK OR BEING EMPLOYED IN SEPTEMBER!!!!

8. Includes "self-employed".....
....many of whom don't want to be and are doing it because they can't find any work. Most start-ups fail, plus the small self-employed
sole proprietership owner pays both employee and employer shares of FICA, the income tax that is the most onerous for middle-class workers,
and thr most regressive.
