Sub contract possibly in Coast future
By MICHAEL REAM
WASHINGTON - A pending Bush administration deal to build nonnuclear submarines for Taiwan could bring jobs to South Mississippi, though several hurdles must be cleared before construction can begin.
The deal for eight diesel-electric submarines, part of the Bush administration's pledge to provide weapons to Taiwan, hinges on political approval in Taiwan to buy the submarines. It is likely to anger China, which strongly opposes such arms sales.
U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., said this week that "chances are very great" that the submarines will be built at Northrop Grumman Ingalls Operation in Pascagoula, the largest private employer in Mississippi.

Notice how US foreign policy is affected! "It is likely to anger China, which strongly opposes such arms sales." They don't care about foreign policy - who cares which nation is mad at us - let's just keep making money for our corporate friends - where's the pork?
