14. Reaction by my cool 4 year old

My daughter strolled over while I was watching the Ryan speech and she was mesmerized -- then she asked, "Did George Bush lie? Did the president lie?" I told her that he did. The look on her face was stunning -- I just watched this wave of disappointment and angst. So I told her we are working hard so George Bush to lose the election and John Kerry will become president. She asked if he would lie, too. I told her I hoped not.

She understands the concept of lying and people of authority (and presidents and elections; you can tell what comes out of my mouth all day).

She'd never put those two concepts together before. It was bittersweet seeing this naked emotion on her face. And it was good to see her dancing around the room singing a little made-up song about HOPE and Kerry winning the election.

All the classics like WMD, Saddam-9/11 connection, oil will pay for the reconstruction, and more. He was really upset and got an ovation and the end from the Dems I assume. It seems it was a floor debate about the "internet hoax" of a military draft in 05 the Rethugs were saying the Dems are "scaring kids" with it.

Rep. Tim Ryan: I thank the gentleman. I rise in opposition of this bill. But I would like to clarify something. We're not trying to scare kids. This president's foreign policy is what's scaring the kids of this country. And then people have said today, "Why are people believing this?", "Why are people believing this big internet hoax?". Well, (these are the same people who) told us Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11. Same people that told us Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Same people who told us we were going to be able to use the oil for reconstruction money. The same people that told us we would be greeted as liberators not occupiers. Same people, same President that told us the Taliban is gone. Same President that told us Poland is our ally two days before they pull out. Same President that tells us Iraq is going just great. Same President that tells us the economy is going just great. Same people that told us the tax cut was going to create millions of jobs. Same people that told us the Medicare program only cost $400 billion dollars, when it really cost $540 billion. So PLEASE FORGIVE US FOR NOT BELIEVING WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! Please forgive the students of this country for not believing what you're saying. Not one thing, not one thing about this war that has been told to the American people or that's been told to these college students has been true. Not one thing. Bremer says we need more troops, the Pentagon says we need more troops and this President can't get them from the international community. There is only one option left; Let's be honest with the American people. I yeild back the balance of my time.
