What percent of Dean supporters wear sandals?
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 04:08 PM by Eric J in MN
MR. RUSSERT: David Broder, to that point, John Zogby, in his analysis of the polls this morning said that "Look at the parking lot of the Iowa caucuses and if you see Volvos and people getting out of them with sandals, it's a good night for Howard Dean. If you see Ford Crown Victorias and people wearing wing-tips, it's Dick Gephardt." Young voters overwhelmingly for Howard Dean. Voters over 60 in Iowa, they're still attached to Dick Gephardt.
------------------------------------

I've never been to a Dean rally or meetup.

What percent of Howard Dean supporters wear sandals?

3. In the WINTER?
Actually, the average age of meetup attendees for Dean is 44 (by a survey of groups across the country at October meetup).

Here's a site of bios of active bloggers that one of the bloggers put together. There's really no characterizing us because we're everyone, we're every age and income group, and we're everywhere.

7. At my last meetup...
... we had a retired 91 year-old schoolteacher and his 90 year-old wife (high end) and 3 high-school seniors (17 and 18-low end), but about 90% were middle-class working people between 40-50, of both sexes.

14. I have been to a meet up since the beginning and except
for the summer, I have yet to see anyone wear sandels. Most of us wear sneakers or loafers. I also host the GenDean one were we have mostly young people but there is a good mix even at the non-Gendean ones.

15. I guess I'm a stronger Dean supporter during the summer
During the winter, I never get the urge to put on sandals. I also tend to feel less small, less gay, and less female than the "average" Dean supporter and I don't own a Volvo. Golly, I sure hope Dean still wants my vote.

I'm going to be canvassing for Dean in NH. You'd be surprised how easy it is to get the NH Nascar Dads to switch loyalty from Bush to Dean when a curvy woman in spandex and stilettos asks them to. ;)

My favorite shoes are Wolverine Work boots, perfect for stomping ignorance and stupidity.

21. Everybody wears "sandals"...maybe Russert doesn't know about Birkenstocks
I wear them when it's possible...and I support Kerry. I've gone to a couple Dean things and there are no more people wearing sandals than most gatherings.

I thought Russert's assertions were stupid.

23. Retarded comment.
He has a point, saying that Dean is more for the college crowd whose voting issue is the war while Gephardt is for the retired and the working men and women of this country; but I'm tired of this stereotype about sandal-wearers and latte-sippers. I hope the Club for Growth Ad backfires because it's so politically cynical ("Haha, these average folk are so dumb they'll write off Dean just because of his image") that it makes the Confederate flag remark look tame by comparison.

PS: I don't like sandal-wearing people myself. I think of lazy pothead students who've never had a day of hard work. I don't feel like looking at their grimy toes anyway.

Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 09:45 PM by maxanne
It's -15 here today, and NO ONE is wearing sandals.

What a shame he couldn't shoehorn "latte drinking, tie-dye wearing, patchouli smelling, Volvo driving, recycling, cross country skiing, commie pinko liberals" into his hopelessly inane stereotyping idiocy.

We need to take back the government and the media.

What's next - "Do Dean supporters wear boxers or briefs? Bikini, panty, or thong?"

I'm sure glad the liberal media are asking the important questions, and discussing the burning issues of the day.

33. well, how many people are going to wear sandals on a cold, winter
night in Iowa? Leave it to the press to come up with something silly like this.

BYW, the Dean campaign attracts people of all ages to our meetups. Teenagers to people in their 80's have been to ours.
