I've figured out what the mysterious box really is!
It's not a flak jacket.

It's not an earpiece receiver.

It is an older-model Pet Safe radio collar with a very long band, which was responding to a Pet Safe wireless transmitter strategically positioned under the stage right where Bush was standing. You can get them at most pet stores, any Home Depot and many other fine department stores.

Pet Safe radio collars are designed as "training aids." If you want your stupid dog to stay in the yard, you put one of these things on him, run an antenna wire around the perimeter of his play area (unless you want to drop $289 on the one Bush's people had), and it shocks the shit out of your dog if he tries to escape.

In this case, it was designed to shock the shit out of Bush if he said or did anything stupid. Unfortunately for his handlers, the box burned out from overuse about halfway through the debate.

His "let me finish" statement? He was asking his handlers to keep their fingers off the button until he was able to make his statement slightly less idiotic.

It wasn't written into the debate rules, but you wouldn't have wanted to. "No radio-collar dog training systems allowed"? Uhh...yeah.

2. LOL
But, seriously, I think the Bush campaign needs to put these rumors to rest and answer the legitimate questions raised by the mysterious bulge and his comments to no one in particular during the last debate. ;)
