Freepers Ruffled over some ABC Memo
Freepers:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1239519/posts

According to Drudge:

"An internal memo written by ABCNEWS Political Director Mark Halperin admonishes ABC staff: During coverage of Democrat Kerry and Republican Bush not to "reflexively and artificially hold both sides 'equally' accountable."

The controversial internal memo obtained by DRUDGE, captures Halperin stating how "Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win."

But Halperin claims that Bush is hoping to "win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions."

"The current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done," Halperin writes."

The Letter is Here

Look, I believe in the integrity of journalism. I have a degree in journalism -- and I think, yes, that the media -- particularly the 24 hr. news media -- lets the spinheads come on ALL THE TIME, and just tell BLATANT LIES ON THE AIR.

Apparently someone over at ABC, woke up -- as Chris Matthews did, when he got pissed that someone used out-of-context Kerry quotes, from his show -- and realized that perhaps, oh perhaps maybe Bush/Cheney were relying on just a little too much smear -- as in, blatant lies -- because, face it -- ALL THEY HAVE DONE IS ATTACK JOHN KERRY.

I believe this letter was an attempt to put the kibbosh (sp?) on the brutal, right-wing spin machine, and hold them accountable. Of course, this enrages the freepers -- seeing as smears, ridicule and sensationalism are all they can count on to motivate their lobotomized constituency.

Let's keep an eye on this. It was a moment, a moment, maybe -- when something "true" sticks its nose into the air.

4. Maybe now
the folks around here who think Halperin spins for the repubs, who reflexively damn all and sundry in the MSM will have the grace to admit, that the whole media picture is a tad more complex than they make it out to be. And boy, I feel sorry for Halperin; he is going to catch some major shit. Good for him for writing said memo.

6. A conspiracy to commit journalism
I hope it succeeds. Things do seem to be getting a little better. They ran Cheney's lies this week. I'd love to see them explain that the Kerry flip flop attacks are based on chopped quotes and quotes taken out of context. I'd like them to show what Kerry actually said before his vote, next to what he says tonight.

They have to go after the $87 billion lie to. Nobody ever points out that Bush threatened to veto the same bill.
