Things I'm expecting from a Dean presidency |
|
I can't wait for the Dean blog to become the WH blog. And those of us who know HD can imagine him getting the WH press corps in line by giving plum interviews to bloggers. That'll make Fox, CNN, and MSNBC bring Kos, Atrios and Betsy Devine on the air. He can also give plum interviews to Katrine Vanden Huevel and Cynthia Tucker - I love seeing those gals on CNN, too.
Next, healthcare will be addressed and passed, and then reformed. We'll have a majority in the House, because all the Deaniacs will make sure Dems get elected. The Senate is also doable.
Dean could make a Dept of Peace and put Dennis Kucinich in charge. That depatment would dovetail nicely into Dean's Success by Six program. Making sure our children are not abused or neglected as babies, toddlers and preschoolers would decrease our prison population greatly.
I imagine Dean will hold quite a few state dinners with France, Germany and Russian leaders to rebuild and strengthen bridges and telegraph to the rest of the world that the fight against terrorism has been renewed and allies have kissed and made up.
Okay, that's a few of my expectations! Any other Deaniacs game to do some daydreaming/ wishing about what the Dean WH will look like?

That's THE #1 reason I will vote for whomever we put-up against Bush. I will vote for Lieberman, I will vote for Kucinich, I will vote for a warmed-over turd if it promises me a chorus line of John Paul Stevens clones!

2. I don't think Dean would do a Dept. of Peace |
|
because that's just too outlandish. However, I think Dean will be known for protecting women's reproductive rights during his days in the White House, and his bringing Congress back under Democratic control. Also, he'll be bringing in foreign Islamic troops into Iraq, and bring forth an unprecedented multilateral consensus on the reconstruction of Iraq.
I also see a lot of shoring up of domestic infrastructure such as funding for border securities, and plenty of education initiatives that helps children in failing schools.

3. One of the main reasons I mentioned the DoP |
|
is that Kucinich and Dean seem to have come to an understanding. Also, most of what I heard Kucinich say about the DoP had to do mostly with homegrown violence prevention, such as domestic violence and child abuse.

4. Why is Dept. of Peace outlandish? |
|
It is one of the best ideas to come out of this campaign and would do worlds to improve our society and the ROW.

...as if we still called the DoD the Department of War. It also gives rise to a mischaracterization of its purpose. It needs a different name that more accurately defines its purpose. "Department of Promotion of Nonviolence" or "Division of Alternative Solutions" or something. IMO...

7. Vocabulary is important. I think all the candidates would make some |
|
very visible vocabulary changes in policy statements.
For example, "Operation Kill the Iraqis and Seize their Oil," doesn't sound so good, "Operation Iraqi Freedom," sounds a lot better, and I am sure Dean's advisors would be able to give it an even more attractive name.

8. I suspect that we have a much harder row to hoe than that. |
|
Even Dennis wouldn't be able to get a DoP to see the light of day in the forseeable future.
No matter who's elected, we have to be in this for our lifetimes. Probably longer.

9. If what Dean said when he was the governor of Vermont is any guide... |
|
....he will try to get the age for Medicare and Social Security eligibility pushed back to 70. He would also cut back on the social safety net and other social spending in general.
For proof, read www.mylinuxisp.com/~cryofan/dean.html
