SPIN ALERT re: Timber Company
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 09:20 PM by troublemaker
Here's the deal:

Bush includes every person who files a schedule C as a "small business", even if he doesn't run a small business at all. For instance, if your schedule C is for rental income from renting your spare beach property. It sounds like Bush filed a schedule C last year to report a trivial payment from a timber company, and Cheney also filed a schedule C for something or another.

Bush and Cheney are counted as SMALL BUSINESSES simply because they file schedule C. And Bush and Cheney are not small businessmen.

You cannot define small business as anyone who files a schedule C. Period. It's crooked accounting (on edit: maybe not accounting... more like corrupt and dishonest reasoning and arguement.)

Bush was too dumb to even understand the point.

(If Bill Gates sells $2000.00 worth of baseball cards at flea markets then he would report that on his personal taxes on a schedule C. That wouldn't make him a small business.)

Did he actually file something about a timber company, or was it a hypothetical example?

edit: nevermind, found it on factcheck:

"President Bush himself would have qualified as a "small business owner" under the Republican definition, based on his 2001 federal income tax returns. He reported $84 of business income from his part ownership of a timber-growing enterprise."

What was Bush rambling about then?

10. So, according to Bush
John Edwards, multi-millionaire trial lawyer, is a small business.

The whole flap over Edwards' taxes were on his filing schedule C.
