Other Texans agree?

1. He's a newbie to this authenticity thing, didn't get started until 40+ yrs
old, whereas many of us had to be real from the start, because the world would have crushed us if we weren't, not to mention the slapping around you'd get from my mother.

2. I agree, but would also say...
that there has never been anything authentic about the stupid dungpile, so why should his faux 'good ol' boy' accent be any different. If there is any justice in this world, Ann Richards and Molly Ivins will be allowed to publicly voice their opinions of * in the national media. I would love to see that.

3. Totally agree
Born and raised in Kermit (outside of Odessa) and have lived in Lubbock for years. Here, we make fun of people that try to talk that way.

4. From Kansas,
but know a lot of Texans, and I've never been struck by their accent as I am by Shrub's. It sounds like one of those highfalutin' jewelry chain ads where they get some woman to don a British accent because is sounds more - well - highfalutin'. Except his is the opposite - sounds more twangy and drawl-y than a real Texas accent.

7. Another native Kansan, and I was gonna say the same thing.
I'm a Zonie, now, fwiw.

But as they say (and hubby and I watched the debate with a GENUINE Texas yellow-dog):

All hat, no cattle.

6. My family has been here for about 170 years, me not that long but I've
never heard anyone who talks anything like *bush and that includes east, west, south and north Texans, those from Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc. His is a manufactured mess.

9. Ft. Worth girl here...
(living in Michigan at the moment)

I've heard that kinda talk before, but only from posers and cowboy wannabes. No one has EVER explained to me why NO ONE ELSE in the Bush family talks like that. It's pure bull caca. But I have to say that the strutting around thing, boy, I've known LOTS of Texas men who do that. Including my Republican brother, who is voting for Kerry this year, LOL!

People up here often ask me where I'm from, I used to be proud to say "Texas" but these days I feel embarrassed and inclined to explain, know what I mean?

12. I noticed his "twang" was a little thicker tonight
Course I couldn't really say if that's his normal way or not, since I'm usually yelling at the TV and changing the channel everytime he's on.

13. Here Here!
I was commenting the same thing to my husband. It seemed yet thicker than ever before - hey, they're in Missouri. Playing to the crowd? God, it's sickening. Sorry to my southern DUers, but this northerner relishes hearing a Yankee accent in the White House.

14. I'm Glad Somebody FINALLY Brought That Up...
...because I've always felt that Shrub's accent is the most put-on, faked Texas accent that I've ever heard. Even J.R. Ewing has a better accent than Duhbya. There is just something about the way that he uses his vowels that makes them sound like they're made up,...you know, like intentionally made up to sound "Texan" or "southern."

I have heard many, many normal Texas accents that don't sound anything like Shrub's. I think the guy is a fake, just like his "ranch" (with the fake hay bales) in Crawford. The guy is a carpetbagger just like his daddy.

Thanks, jchild. Great point.

15. I don't think it has anything to do with accent...
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 10:55 PM by delete_bush
Try to imagine him speaking differently. Would the voice of say, Dan Rather, or Barry White, or Sean Connery sound right coming out of his mouth?

His voice is who he is. Not clear, not concise, odd, befuddled... in short, the voice of an idiot.

Edited to add that I am not a Texan.

16. <grr>
But please remember, HE IS NOT A TEXAN... to be non-P.C., he's a Yankee. It's definitely an act, and the sheeple suck it up like sweetened sun tea.

Quite sad, really... welcome to freakin' Hollywood.

Think Billy Graham & his son. It's coded for the evangelicals.
