llIegals-- the political 'untouchables'

This article kind of goes nowhere, but it juxtaposes some interesting statistics, which I have pasted below:

January 11, 2004

BY MARK STEYN SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST Advertisement

According to a RoperASW poll from last year, 83 percent of Americans support mandatory detention and forfeiture of property for illegal immigrants, followed by deportation.

Eighty-three percent. Pretty big number. So who are the 17 percent who don't think illegal immigrants should be seized, jailed, have their property confiscated and deported?

Well, they're pretty much everyone in the two major parties, plus the entire U.S. media.
....
Remember the 1986 immigration amnesty? One of its beneficiaries was Mahmoud abu Halima, who went on to bomb the World Trade Center in 1993. His friend Mohammad Salameh wasn't so fortunate. He applied for the '86 amnesty but was rejected. So he just stayed on in America, living illegally, and happily was still around to help Mahmoud and co-attack the Twin Towers. He's the guy who rented the truck, which suggests he had enough ID to get past the rental agent at Ryder.

He also goes one to commnet somewhat pointlessly on how this affects the 2004 campaign. More here:

2. Thank You

Our country cannot withstand overwhelming numbers of immigrants. There is no more "new frontier".

I would go as far as put out bounties for $500 for any and all illegal immigrants that a citizen can identify. BTW, this isn't a "big brother" issue. It's not citizens spying on citizens. It's citizens locating illegals.

3. do you support arresting CEOs that hire illegals?
The reason they are here is because businesses will hire them - so do you supporting arresting managers that hire illegals? Or would you rather just fine them $100 or so, and instead arrest the illegal for the crime of looking for work? Just checking?

6. ARREST THEM!!!!
Yes, arrest managers who are repeat offenders. Raise the fines.

Find illegals and deport them. It's not just a labor issue, it's a security issue. Every illegal alien is a potential terrorist.

My anscestors were immigrants. But they were LEGAL immigrants. There is a difference.

BTW, I'm sick of the insinuation that Mexico has ANY right to tell the US what it's immigration policies should be.

There is a potentially serious issue that if we don't put a stop to the million of illegals per year, we will be beholden to a foreign population with allegiance to Mexico before the United States. This isn't right.
