I think Bush might manage to break his own record for the African-American
vote. The 9% or so he received in '00 will look impressive compared to what he gets in '04.

I mean, come on. Slavery?

2. Someone obviously taught him about Dred Scott before the debate
and he got confused... Uh... Black.... uh Clarence Thomas... uh no, I can't say that... Right... slavery.... Dred Scott... yeah, that's it... I know all about that... that should appeal to those people. What an absolute idiot!

3. Gore got 90% of the African-American vote, not bush
I think bush might get oh, say 3% of the African-American vote this time. If he's lucky.

5. Yes, that's essentially what I said.
I stated that Bush received 9% of the vote. Gore obviously got the rest.

I meant that he would break his own record for lowest percentage received.

4. He has the vote of one Clarence Thomas.
The Bush-Cheney campaign paid for the event, and at the end he switched to an overtly political pitch after describing his records and goals. "I'm here for another reason," he said. "I'm here to ask for your vote."

That was greeted by applause but also by guffaws, which Bush did not miss. "No, I know, I know, I know," he said. "The Republican Party has got a lot of work to do. I understand that."

Jesse Jackson sat in the front row and Bush drew laughter by ad-libbing, "You didn't need to nod your head that hard, Jesse."

8. My wife and I were asking each other if
he really felt up to trying to give us a *erp* history lesson?

Then Kerry stood up and showed Bush what school was all about.
