Sorry, But GIBSON SUCKED!!!! He Was NOT IN CONTROL
He Let Bush Run Roughshod Over Him, Notice How He Tried To Frame All
of Kerry's 30 second rebuttals so that Kerry couldn't respond to the Chimp the way he wanted to, but Bush ran roughshod over him and he didn't do that ONCE to the Chimp...

2. He interrupted Kerry on the rebuttal start to ask a new question.
Very strange.

3. Shrub
got at least 3-4 minutes more rebuttal than Kerry. Even when Gibson tried to enforce the rules, shrub talked over him like a petulant child.

7. After reading many of the observations of this debate I am surprised
no one mentioned the first time that Gibson let little georgie have his way by letting him have the last word when Kerry clearly had a rebuttle coming, Gibson cut him off and said we had more questions to ask, you gotta love Kerry, he did look pissed as he should have been, I know I was but he didn't say a word until his next time up and then came back with the rebuttle that Gibson tried and failed to keep him from giving...

I know a strong leader when I see one, that was definately presidential, unlike the spoiled and arrogant little georgie shanigans he displays every time he doesn't get his own way...

10. On The First Question About Flip-Flopping
He denied Kerry a response. Yup, I notice it. Bush just ran roughshod over Gibson and started talking whenever he felt like it. It was disgustingly aggressive and disrespectful...

8. It's the presidency.
I liked it when Ifill cut Cheney off at the knees, but it's easier to do that with the VP. Bush should have had more respect for the office he sits in than to use it to back Gibson up like that, although Gibson should have had the spine to keep him in place.

I wonder what Bush would have done if Gibson had refused to allow Bush to talk over him.

9. He should NEVER be allowed to moderate a debate again
he was beyond horrible- the man was an embarrassment. Audience members could (and would) have done a better job than he did. He just let bush walk all over him, and hardly said a word. How pathetic... and I would have said that had Kerry been the one blatantly breaking the rules.

America deserves better than that guy.

12. nahhh ...
it would have been nice to have a competent newsperson as moderator but frankly, I thought Gibson was virtually invisible and had no meaningful impact on the debate ...

yeah, i suppose he could have been tougher on bush's outbursts but I just can't get too excited about the "non roll" he played ...

17. Yes, for once why can't a moderator say "follow the rules."
It would've been huge. But of course, Bush got a little leeway just 'cause he's the smirkin chimp.

18. Disagree

I was pleasantly surprised. I expected whoredom. I thought he picked excellent questions, kept out of the way, forced both candidates to address the actual questions a few times, and showed grace under Shrub's fire that made Shrub look smaller. I also thought Lehrer redeemed himself last week for having shot down Gore in 2000. I'll never love or trust these people, but I have been impressed with both presidential moderators. It was Gwen Awful who pissed me off.

19. Agree...
Beetwasher, I totally agree about that first question. I was screaming at the tv when Gibson refused to allow Kerry to respond!

Gibson said something to the effect of "I'm sorry you can't reply, we have a lot of questions to get to", but then went on to let Bush jump in like a maniac whenever he wanted.

If you notice, Bush was springing out of his seat and talking before Gibson could even say a word.

When Bush got out of control and started approaching Charlie after that one question, I thought the media would point out how inappropriate it was.

Instead, (some of them anyway) are spinning "Wow, now that's a sign of an aggressive leader"

:puke:
