NYTimes gives debate to Kerry - calls Bush "incoherent"
Mr. Bush was deeply unpersuasive when asked why he had not permitted the importation of cheaper prescription drugs from Canada. He claimed that the reason was "I want to make sure it cures you and doesn't kill you." Mr. Kerry cleanly retorted that four years ago in a campaign debate, Mr. Bush had said importing medicine from Canada sounded sensible.

And the president was utterly incoherent when asked about whom he might name to the Supreme Court in a second term. His comment about how he didn't want to offend any judges because he wanted "them all voting for me" was a joke - but an unfortunate one, given the fact that the president owes his job to a Supreme Court vote.

...

Mr. Kerry demonstrated, at the very minimum, a stature that was equal to the president's. If Mr. Bush was hoping to recover all the ground he lost last week, he failed in his mission.

i.e. his 'keep his daughters on a leash' line in the first debate.

40. As the joke, goes, "Bring complete sentences back to the White House"
Bush sneers at Kerry for speaking French. Kerry should sneer back that at least he does speak one language well.

That wouldn't play well with most Americans, but I like snark.

8. Pound them with that
" he didn't want to offend any judges because he wanted "them all voting for me"

Not funny, not funny at all.

We have to pound them with this ridiculous remark so disdainful of our democracy, which makes light of the very troubled election of 2000, from which the nation never recovered. Fucking asshole.

Bush attempted to describe "strict constructionism". Unfortunately, "His kind of justice" claim to be strict constructionists, but they twist the law in ANY way possible to support their point of view.

Kerry's response made you think but it made a lot of sense and I think swing voters will identify with it.

I would like Kerry to make some comment about checking justices for their consistency. It's OK to be be deeply interpretive AND strict constructionist just so long as your judgement are consistent.

OH, BTW Bush-Hole. Regarding the Pledge of the Allegiance, it IS in the consitution.

"Congress shall pass no law respecting an establishment of religion or restrict the free exercise thereof"!!!!

Kids ARE allowed to pray in school. Teachers are not allowed to LEAD prayers. Students are not allowed to lead prayers or prostelitize because ALL student leadership activities in a school are delegated or condoned by school staff to students.

I mean, we're talking about CANADA! They get most of their drugs from US companies and all we want to do is import them back here. It's nothing more than a pharmaceutical joy ride - how f*cking dangerous is that???

15. Let me get this straight....
Okay. So Canada is too stupid to tell pure pharmaceutical products from dangerous bootlegs from the allies of Calcutta, but George Bush can, and should be unquestioningly trusted on this issue.

BUT it's okay for Merck to peddle Vioxx, which it has known for some years now posed a risk of serious effects to the heart. And if your loved one died while taking it, you have no recourse, because Bush wants to do away with pesky trial lawyers who persecute doctors and those good hearted pharmaceutical firms.

Makes sense. In some parallel universe.

Um, does Bush think we're all constantly on LSD, and that we don't notice that EVERYTHING he says is contrary to reality? Or did I miss something, when Bush was actually not misrepresenting reality?

Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 12:13 AM by tblue37
my jaw dropped. But then I thought about it for a minute and I realized he didn't mean it the way it sounded. He meant that he wants judges to be voting for him in this election, and if he says whom he would nominate, then other judges might be pissed off and therefore not vote for him.

But it sure did sound like a reference to the way he got into office, and I am pretty sure most people are going to take it that way.

Heh, heh, heh.

43. Well, it's true, in a twisted way. One of the first things he did in
office, in the bad old days before 'everything changed' was to change, by decree, the definition of 'wetlands', thus removing 5 million acres from wetland protections. Since then, 3 million acres have been re-certified as protected. Leaving him 2 million acres down.

Kinda like what he did with the jobs. Lose 2 1/2 million, then boast about adding 1 million in the last 18 months. Still 1 1/2 million down.

38. yeah
In reference to Kerry once again saying we'd gone in alone, Bush responded, "What do you say to Tony Blair? or Silvio Berlusconi? or Aleksander Kwasniewski?" (Remember the massive land army that Italy provided?)

Kerry had a good retort that, if Missouri were an independent nation and put up the number of troops it has sent to Iraq, it would qualify as the third-largest country in the coalition, behind the US and Britain.

Kerry really knocked it out of the park tonight.

Basically I told my husband last night that if the American people (whoever the hell they are) vote for Chimpyass over this wonderful, intelligent, honest, tall, hunk of a man that is so worthy to be president over the one that wasn't even elected and isn't even worth being a dog catcher in my eyes, we are leaving this country.
