Edwards Triangulates dialog between Sharpton Dean on Race Relations, |
|
and he defers the discussion about the fact that Vermont has few African -Americans but that Sharpton went at Dean about "who did he have in his Vermont Admin. who was an African-American." I felt the "argument betwen Dean/Sharpton was staged in "Deans Favor."
But, Edwards came off looking like "Mr. Pro South Race Relations" and the others including Gephardt chimed in.
I think since Vermont has such a small amount of African-Ams' it's hard to "call Dean out on this" but I understand it gave a "forum opening" for Sharpton and Edwards to beat their chests.
Still, Shaprton makes an excellent point.....about whether Dean can be a candidate who appeals to "Afican-Ams" and "Undocumented Aliens" in the "FUTURE OF AMERICA?"
I think we Dems are ready to "ditch the 'Race Issue' in favor of Inclusionism. BUT....given the Chimp.....maybe it's the right course? Or is it.
Back to Moseley-Braun who just "Gets it ALL!" She's the one who can focus us on "race in America." She's going after Al Sharpton dead on criticizing him.
I love her.....she's getting after their butts on Race Relations in America and calling them OUT on thier HYPOCRACY on RACE RELATIONS IN AMERICA!

4. 20,000 people classified as minorities in VT and not one qualified??? |
|
Two percent of Vermont's population is classifed as minority. Not one person in those 20,000 was qualified for some of the posh-posh cabinet positions?
Dean's race talk is proving to be just talk. He surely hasn't walked the walk.

5. Yes of course. Tokenism is the true course |
|
We must appoint token minority representatives to positions of power, just to show we aren't in the KKK.
This is how white people can earn Sharpton's respect, right?
The Rev isn't just playing the race card for political and personal reasons, is he? Sharpton isn't just a charming unscrupulous egomaniac, is he? No, of course not.

who could hold a cabinet position. For the record I dont think Dean is a racist but I envision there are minorities who could have those jobs and perform them well.

had fifty people, yeah, one of them should be a minority. But as far as I know, the Vermont cabinet has six people. So only one eighth of one cabinet member should be a minority.

9. I wish Dean had a better answer. But, I lived in New England for awhile |

and the race relations there are different because there are so few African Americans it's easier to "overlook" than in other areas of the country.
Should Dean have done better in his Governorship? Probably...but what if no one really "stepped up" and said "here I AM!" I know that sounds lame, but in Vermont it might have been true.
What one needs to know is what is Deans daily life interaction with African Americans. Has he tried to have friendships or associations in his past. I think his roomate choices at Yale and his work in the Bronx might point out that he isn't an "exclusivist." But, not being an African-American I don't know if that counts.
I just think it's important...but that it's far easier for John Edwards to relate to African-Americans or me...because although I'm Yankee loyalty I spent much of my childhood in the "racist South" to understand what the problem is and TALK ABOUT IT....than Dean....who tried but ended up in Vermont....where there's not enough interaction with African-Americans to really get a feel for what he might do...ON EDIT! I grew up in a South that really was Racist...not like today, just to clarify. The South of 2004 is NOT the South I grew up in.. I don't want any of my fellow Southerners dissing me because I'm not "with the times." Sorry. But years ago....it was ALL different.
I hope what I say will make sense...I'm just thinking that Dean might have a different view than a Clinton, Edwards or even Gore.
Whereas M-B, and Sharpton......see it all! And, Lieberman knows how to "play" it all because he marched with Dr. King.....but there's much "pandering" in his posture about that. Although at the time I'm sure he was dedicated and sincere.....

|
 I don't have the answer about Dean and Race. But, I don't know that any of the others except M-B and Sharpton would be any better?

to why I thought Dean is the way he is? You may agree or strongly disagree with my comments, but would appreciate your reading to point out where I'm wrong about Vermonters, and New Englanders in general.
Thanks, :-)'s I think it's reply #9. About my NE and Southern experiences.
