CNN - WHO do they think they're kidding with this?
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/10/09/snap.poll/

This is linked on the homepage too, with the same headline. Which is:

Poll: Bush, Kerry even in 2nd debate

Then read the article:

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) -- There was no clear winner of the second presidential debate, a poll taken late Friday suggests.

A CNN/USA Today/Gallup snap poll taken immediately after the presidential debate Friday night found that respondents gave a slight, statistically insignificant edge to Sen. John Kerry over President Bush, 47 percent to 45 percent.

The respondents included 515 registered voters who watched the debate. Their political affiliations broke down as 38 percent Republican, 32 percent Democratic and 30 percent independent.

<snip>

Read the whole article, it's peppered with indicators that Kerry actually WON according to their data.

Like this:

<snip>
The respondents were polled before the event and 50 percent said they planned to vote for Bush while 46 percent favored Kerry.
<snip>

Why can't they just call a spade a spade? It's obvious from their data that their voting pool was biased, yet STILL gave Kerry the edge. That says A LOT.

Grrrrrrr....

4. Yeah, but the ABC poll had more Dems and results are similar
Kerry 44%
Bush 41
Tie 13

"In terms of political allegiance, the 35 percent-32 percent Democratic-Republican division among debate watchers was similar to the even 35 percent-35 percent division among viewers of last week's first presidential debate. The audience for Tuesday night's vice presidential debate, by contrast, was a bit more Republican, 38 percent to 31 percent."

5. Like Josh Marshall...I Kinda Like A "Draw"
Before you flame...remember, this is now a media circus/parlor game. As many others here have echoed, if you're not decided by now, why bother...be a slacker. This is now a game of "turn out"...who can throw enough red meat at their base that will turn into votes on Nov. 2.

That was Bunnypant's total strategery tonight...every buzzword in the Gingrich universe came out of his piehole..."liberal", "Tax & spend"...you know the rest. Even his jumping up and down was designed to show him as "in charge" (one spin: No one tells the pResident to shut up...I think that was super-moran Ron Silver) to his hive that thought he looked too weak last week. Unka Dick blazed the way on Wednesday and to the hive, this got the spirits up...Bunnypant's job tonight was to keep the hive buzzing. Jury's out if that's been accomplished.

In fairness, Kerry was doing the same with us. He was hitting the asshole on every "high test" line he could. It was surprising it took him so long to slip an Enron and Haliburton into the mix, but he was pounding away at the manchild's credibility...which deserves it...and all of us ate it up with a spoon.

Now whose side is more dedicated? And whose left to decide? This last debate will be purely about momentum. If Kerry looks good one more time, he's gonna draw a lot of the younger voters who may have been lukewarm and the true last minute undecideds (I'm not sure where they come from, but they show up every election).

Let the GOOPers think they won "the debate"...the bar was so low for doofus tonight even charging Charlie Gibson was chuckled at and his near Captain Queeg breakdowns went un-noticed. Let's let them get cocky...and let the manchild get overconfident again...and he will. He could help us a lot being both pushy (they think this tactic works) and cocky at Debate 3. This will be unnoticed by the talking heads, but I assure you not by the public...the disconnect is massive this year and it'll be fun seeing how the media covers their ass after Nov. 2.

6. Good point. Let them be complacent, let us be more determined.
Still, it's frustrating. But it shouldn't shock anyone at this point.

7. These People Are Slick, Not Smart
The last week we saw how Kerry got them off balance and how they still have no gyroscope at to which end is up. I've never heard a debate (and I've heard 'em all) where an incumbent was so pandering to his base this late in a campaign. Where Nixon & Raygun...even Poppy...were trying to peal off some Democratic votes with the debates, the manchild is trying to keep his base from imploding.

It's starting to become obvious to me, he doesn't have the numbers. There aren't enough fundie and wingnuts to counteract the rise in Democratic voters in the key states that could get this boy to skate by.

In just a month, this regime has gone from dreams of a pluarlity (what Bunnypants really wants...a majority of the votes cast) to hoping they can play the electoral college numbers again and make it close enough to Diebold or outright steal it. I think the situation is different this time...but they're far from out of it and still very, very dangerous.

11. I thought the same
Who the HELL panders to their base so blatantly to a national audience 3 weeks before the election? Only one reason for that - there is a very real concern that their base is cracking.

I'm still terrified though, because if it's close enough to steal it will be stolen. Again.

10. How much you wanna bet, the undecideds are going to solidify
for Kerry now, starting tomorrow? They are going to read into the calmness and pin pointed detail they saw tonight from Kerry.

I already saw it happening in the polls.
