Well, it happened -- my Kerry sign was vandalized tonight
I've had it up for about 2 weeks with no problems. Someone came by and vandalized it tonight.

It's funny, the unexpected emotions you feel when someone invades your space. I hate that they destroyed my sign, but what bothers me the most is thinking that some ignorant America-hating, free-speech loathing ASSHOLE was on my property. I wish I knew who it was that did it.

My husband taped the pieces back together and put it right back in the front yard. He's not nearly as passionate as I am about ousting Bush, but he hit the roof over this.

1. That's horrible
If it makes you feel better, I was getting on the freeway today and there were a bunch of signs. One of them was a Bush/Cheney sign and someone spraypainted Satan over Cheney.

2. That does make me feel better. Thank you.
Tomorrow I'm going to figure out a way to rig my sign so that if someone tries to rip it up again they'll be sorry. I remember seeing some threads on the DU with tips on what to do to keep people from stealing/vandalizing signs. I just didn't think I would have to resort to doing something like that, but....(sigh).

I just hope they don't vandalize my house, next. But I won't be deterred. Vandalism is a small price to pay for standing up for the values I would be willing to fight and die for.

3. There was a great post earlier. They told how to use a motion detection
siren device ($5 at Walgreens or other places I guess) and using velcro putting it in between the two sides of the sign. I think it's great. I hate the feeling you described too. Violated by hatefull people.

5. that sucks
It disturbes me to consider the mindset of the people who do this kind of crap. My "Me"publican little brother keyed my car b/c of my Kerry sticker. I don't really care about the car - it's an old piece of junk - but it just bothers me that these people will spout off about bringing "liberty" to other nations and yet will gleefully vandalize the property of people they don't agree with. :wtf:

Good for you for putting it right back up!

7. I Have A Confession...
At the end of my street is a house with a Bunnypants/Crashcart sign. While I can see it out my front door, at least it's pointing down my dead-end street rather than down the major thoroughfare (dumb, dumb, dumb). These are good, but misguided people...and I respect their right to have the sign...as long as it stays on their property.

Several times I've seen the sign laying prone on their lawn, and the next day the sign is back up. I'm told this is the handiwork of some of the neighborhood kids whose parents are Repugnicans but their kids hate Bunnypants since they think he's gonna draft 'em.

Today as I was driving, I saw not only the sign was down, but it had been thrown into the street. Yes, I couldn't resist...I drove over the thing. And yes, I feel very, very good

Footnote: the sign, my tiretracks included, was back up this evening.

8. You could do what my dad did
In 1996, my 6th grade teacher bought a whole bunch of Clinton, Dole, and Perot signs. We were supposed to bring them home, whomever we (or our parents) supported and display them for extra credit.

Well, my Clinton sign was ripped up a few days after I put it up, and I was heartbroken. My dad, who hated Clinton but hated someone ripping my sign more, woke up one morning and staked out the sign (after he fixed it). He caught the guy (some 20 year old dude) and nearly beat him up. I was so proud of my dad, whose voting Kerry in 04, making this his first Democrat since Carter in 1976 he's voting for.
