Boy, I'm relieved Bush won't appoint justices who support Dred Scott! |
|
Kerry hit the question of the Supreme Court head-on. I liked his Justice Potter Stewart example (by the way, Kerry should have noted that Stewart was appointed by a GOP president, Eisenhower). Meanwhile the chimp is reasuring the American people that his appointees will not support (the long overturned) Dred Scott decision. What a relief!!

1. So Bush is flip-flopping on slavery? |
|
After all, Bush admitted that he preferred dictatorships - a form of government where most citizens are effectively slaves.

to make up for the racist undertones of his comments about the war? If so, he just dug himself in deeper.
Is there a transcript out yet? Did I really hear Bush ask the audience if they'd heard of Dred Scott?

Good point, Bush did come off badly in that segment. Of course, he looked bad all night.

I think he may well sponsor a Constitutional amendment to return runaway slaves.

Was Bush thinking, "I'll go after the Black vote by showing them that I'm against slavery!"
I ask because I get this sense from Republicans sometimes that they still feel, in this day and age, that they should somehow be given credit if they are against slavery -- as if that view takes a truly open mind!

That was a real WTF??? moment.
Yeah, not appointing judges who think slavery is a good thing is proably a good thing.
Maybe you could sort of find your way into the 21st century Mr. Bush???
