Some help with a fact check. Was General Shinseki forced out?
During the debate Kerry said Shinseki was forced out and Bush said he wasn't. After the debate whatever bunch of TV jerks I was watching criticized Kerry for continuing to say this. Was Kerry right? What were the circumstances in the retirement of Shinseki? Specifically, did the Administration demand his resignation because he didn't back Rummy? Thanks I already checked Kerry's website and couldn't find it.

4. The Shinseki story...
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 08:45 AM by ksoze
Gen Wesley Clark covered this after last debate - it is a little tricky. Shinseki was up for retirement and it was excepted and announced- however the Pentagon also immediatly announced his replacement, a year before his actual depature which in military parlence is a slap in the face.

7. Yes, I heard Clark speak on this. To name his replacement way early
was to take away any authority the general had at the time, in military land. It, in effect, forced him into early retirement.

Say you give your notice, if you are a CEO, like Disney CEO has. He has said he is leaving in 2 years. What if Disney immediately names his replacement? The company would immediately start listening and going to the replacement and not the current about-to-retire CEO.

That's what Clark said.

6. I guess Snieder edits CNN's "facts", they only stated that his
four year term was up NOT that they punished him by retiring him early. Pukes.
