Edwards's question here was an example of how one can be friendly to the front-runner. This is how candidates should treat one another, because with questions like this, neither Dean nor Edwards gets hurt.
Dang, I didn't see the previous Iowa debates. Is this what people were talking about with Edwards and Dean being cordial?

...this is an example of that. Edwards has said that his candidacy is about him, not about Dean, and I like that. He's not my "second", but I do like Edwards. WHOA! Edwards says Bush doesn't believe in democracy, doesn't believe in the judicial system.
GO EDWARDS!

I didn't like it when he used that "we don't need people like you lecturing us.." on Dean last year, but he's been more and more positive and substantial than most of the other candidates. The man seems to have a good heart.

10. Edwards now asking a question of Dean... |
|
...concerning "Payday lenders". Asking for agreement, other ideas. Dean says that it was an excellent proposal, not a lot he can do to improve on it. Blind eye to morality, especially in corporate America. Sends a signal that regulations don't matter. Banks own subsidiaries that prey upon minority communities. Edwards lobs a softball to Dean, and Dean praises Edwards and expounds on it. Says that his (Edwards) approach is exactly the right approach.

Dennis Kucinich is a stand up candidate that will tell it like it is. Go Dennis. It's just a shame that Sharpton had to cheapen the debate with his media whoring rhetoric. Can we all say together... TAWANA BRAWLEY Give it up Al and throw your votes to a class act like Carol Mosely Braun. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

This, if I am correct, is the first time he is mentioning trade in the closing remarks at a debate. I'm glad that he's finally putting this issue on the table and establishing himself as THE fair-trade candidate.
On the other hand, Dean is pandering with his cliched Martin Luther King quoting. *yawn*
Lieberman mentions MLK.
As does Sharpton.
Gephardt has proven he has real class and is a sincere person without talking down to the audience with recycled lines about MLK.

60. It seems clear to me. |
|
Kucinich & Edwards. I have them even. They both shone tonight. I think Edwards got more talk time; maybe the questions from the "specialists?" Or just me wanting to hear more from Dennis.
Other notes:
I heard bits and pieces of Dennis Kucinich's campaign/platform all over the stage tonight. I'm a little conflicted about that. One the one hand, I want his positions to become a standard for everyone. On the other hand, I want him getting the credit. Even Lieberman latched on to preschool through college education and tried, in a fumbling sort of way, to use "The End of Fear, Beginning of Hope..." a Kucinich campaign slogan. Earlier in the evening, he told us we ought to be afraid, but that he could make us feel more secure. My summary, not a direct quote.

|
i don't feel that dean did poorly, but i wish he could come across a little more "charming" like edwards does. i gotta say, edwards has a charisma right up there with clinton and kennedy, and i am quite confident he could woo the general electorate if he should win. i still like dean a little more, but i wish he could come across half as polished as edwards. i am sure he was a great trial lawyer, and with a little more experience, i am sure he would be a great (or at least a very persuasive) president..
