You can be arrogant and, if you are competent and skilled, you can be a good doctor.

And if you are incompetent, but you have a pleasing bedside manner and you know when to punt (bring in a specialist), you can still be a passable physician - a lot of older family practice docs fit this description and are well loved by their patients.

But if you are incompetent and arrogant, watch out! Patients who value their health better run the other way, because there is no more dangerous combination in medicine than incompetence combined with arrogance.

There are more of these guys around in medicine than you might think, and they all have one thing in common - they are totally incapable of admitting they made a mistake.

I was amazed that after the debate,I heard NOBODY remark on the fact that Bush's face seemed about to explode at times...His chin was shaking, lip curling, eyes blinking....A man struggling mightily to not fall apart....The fact that he didn't roll his eyes as he did in the first debate seemed to reassure the pundits that Bush was under control....I was honestly thinking that he was going to break down right on the stage before our eyes....This scary man being the leader of the most powerful nation on earth is a very frightening thought!

I have been impressed by how your voice has developed and matured in the past 4 years. When I first started reading your work, you wanted to be a writer. Today, you are one. A hell of a good one too.
