Dammit. Missed opportunities on STEM CELL ISSUE!!! Kerry, read this!!

I did my humble little best to point out the "perfect storm" the stem cell issue became this week.

He did *ok* when the question came up, but he didn't even mention the BREAKING NEWS from Thursday night that stem cells cured a congenital heart disease in mice that is 100% fatal in humans and how researchers are fucking excited and believe the next step is tests on adult heart disease, THE #1 KILLER IN THE USA!!!

Breaking news on the issue....a whole new host of cure possibilities...molecules that cures mice fetuses of a congenital heart defect.
It was a PERFECT opportunity for Kerry to demonstrate how up-to-date he is on the issues. How conscious he is of changing realities, unlike his opponent.

I'd also like to see him explain that no fetuses would be "killed" specifically for the stem cell effort under his plan.

Dammit.

We need a topic or a forum area specifically for serious issue alerts for the Kerry camp.

It would have helped Kerry's response to mention that for the reasons you state. However, I think Kerry's response to the question was pretty good. He gave a clear reason for his position, he showed that there's a huge difference between his position and bush*'s, and even more important was that (IMO) he really connected with people on that question. His talking about the ailing people he had met on the campaign trail, and how THEIR lives were important too, really had the listener's heads bobbing in agreement.

So while you're right that his answer could have been even better than it was, I'm more than satisfied with 90% grade.

He did specifically mention that there were hundreds of existing lines that could be used or something like that. He said that they are currently frozen and will either sit there frozen, simply be destroyed, or they could be used for stem cell research. He also mentioned that they came from fertility clinics and weren't the result of abortions. I thought he did pretty well on that issue and summed it up in a nice concise way.

And in this land of soundbites he should have come up with an easily re-playable line about the existing stem cell lines.
Say everything like he said it, and finnish with a strong statement like:

"There are existing stem cells available from fertility clinics that just die if they're not used. I'm going to let science use them to find cures!"

Assuming that's true about the clinics. Don't quote me on it!

8. i said this morning a universal god thing in the next three weeks

it is like the universe with bush retardedness was so presenting us with the ability to get back on trap, giving us kerry and his history and who he is as a man. and what jerks we are being by not seeing. i swear in the next three things, universe is going to blow things open to make it a mandate a landslide. i feel this is how it has to be.

It has been my experience that most of the people who are against stem cell research are not even aware that we are talking about frozen embryos manufactured through in-vitro fertilization which will never ever ever have a remote chance of being born ... ever.

Kerry knows he has to educate the public on the fact that we are not talking about aborted fetuses. Abortion and stem cell research must be separated into two distinct and unrelated arguments.
