Nutty Winger on c-pan saying that frozen embryos should be adopted |
|
He just made a jack ass out of himself :silly: and he is going off on Kerry's stand on research. He said that we have to save the frozen embryos from being murdered :silly:.

these people are nuts. A weed is "alive" - does germination guarantee life? Life begins when a soul enters the body. One celled organisms are "alive". Do they think and function? If you have no soul, are you "alive"?

6. Who's going to adopt them. Bet he won't gay and lesbian couples adopt |
|
them. also what happens to the thousands of kids that already waiting and can't get adopted? You have couples make a choice do I get a kid that maybe I can at least carry if not conceive or go for an older kid that may have problems. People right now are going to other countries and adopting younger kids because our kids are too old for them or they have such baggage people don't want to deal with.

10. Did anyone tell him that they're going to be destroyed anyway? |
|
Kerry expressed this fact very well last night. Do RWers actually think that a bunch of Dems are going to go around stealing embryos out of the uteri of good Christian women? These guys don't even care to educate themselves on the science they are trying to "debunk". It's the same thing with evolution: predetermined conclusion, grasp at straws to defend it.
Everyone who knows they're stuff on this subject knows that science policy would require strict oversight of embryonic stem cell research. Almost every institution that wants to start up their own stem cell lines has a department dedicated to bioethics, so to hear bush* talk about the ethical/moral dimension of this is insulting to me as a scientist. It's like having someone tell you, "Don't forget to turn on the car before you drive, it's in the bible."

16. Hey, give him a break... |
|
...he's struggling with a real question for the True Believers, which is, when does human life begin, his answer is at fertilization, therefore it is logical and consistent to define these embryos as already individuals with rights and all the rest of it.
Of course he's horribly wrong and misguided. He is an absolutist. But life is not cooperating by having all these neat little well defined dividing lines, it's messy and chaotic and, well, vital.
If there could be a good faith discussion of these matters, that in itself would be a miracle. It would be enough, almost, to restore my faith in humanity.
I'm not holding my breath.

21. Life begins at conception. Isn't that the same as fertilization? |
|
Obviously I'm not a scientist, but aren't destroying frozen embryos the same as aborting a fetus - life wise? Not saying I'm against stem cell research; don't know enough about it.

24. I agree that conception == fertilization... |
|
...for purposes of this discussion. You claim that "life begins at conception", so then you must agree that destruction of these embryos is equivalent to murder. So, when the clinic implants nine embryos over the course of a treatment cycle, and only one "takes", that means the other eitht embryos "died" and the clinic at best is practicing the taking of life in the pursuit of giving life.
Or something like that. Yes, a consistent position requires thinking about cases like this. If one is against the morning-after pill, then logically one must be against the disposal of unused embryos. Which brings up the question, what is to actually become of the unused embryos? It's morally murky territory, and that is why Bush allowed research to continue on existing lines, he could get away with it because "those embryos had already been destroyed". But by the absolutist way of thinking, it should be the moral equivalent of blood money, no matter they were "killed" before or after the president made his decision.
Sorry, digressing a bit this Saturday morning.

What's he think people are going to do with them? Implant them in the illegal, unpaid, immigrant maid that they don't pay taxes on?

20. I would suggest to that guy that he make a strong effort in his church |
|
to sign up people to adopt these cells. In fact, the minister should make it mandatory that every person adopt an unwanted embryo , nurture it, or even the women could have it implanted and carry it to term.
A few years ago, there was such an effort--called angels of something or other that was on the net and trying to get Christians to adopt a child--it fell flat on it's face. It would be interesting to find out what excuses the right to life baby savers would offer up.

22. That's really just too much...Yes, let's implant them into willing women, |

and then when the embryos don't take as often happens, let's arrest the woman for obvious embryo neglect. Shaking my head that we share the earth with people who think in these terms.
