* referred to our troops as "weapons" and "equipment"!?! |
|
"One of the things we've done is we've taken the - we're beginning to transform our military. And by that I mean we're moving troops out of Korea and replacing them with more effective weapons. We don't need as much manpower on the Korean Peninsula to keep a deterrent. In Europe, we have massed troops as if the Soviet Union existed and was going to invade into Europe. But those days are over with. And so we're moving troops out of Europe and replacing it with more effective equipment."
What an a-hole. And so remarkably eloquent

1. I think you've read too much into it |

Better technology allows for fewer troops on the ground in harms way. I think JK advocates the exact same thing.

7. we'll end up sounding as lame as they do... |
|
... every time they recite their "global test" bullshit if we go after statements like this and twist them into something else. There are plenty of straight ahead no-nonsense examples where Bush has shown that troops are pawns in his game and used to score him political points. This argument reminds me of the Daily Show clip, on the topic of the global test, "You said dootie!"

9. I certainly didn't mean it's headline-worthy... |

But I think it has more substance than the 'doodie' jokes in the way it brings his twisted perspective to the surface

Why give troops more pay, or why increase housing at current military bases in the US?
The troops are being withdrawn from overseas posts, to be used in BushCo's next invasion in their continuing war on terror. Almost half of the 2nd ID from South Korea has been sent to Iraq, and at least half of the 25th ID out of Schofield Barracks Hawaii, is either in Iraq or Afghanistan.
But high tech gadgets cannot occupy a conquered country, only ground troops can do that, and if part of the Bush agenda is to attack Iran and Syria, more troops will be needed.

2. I recall he also mentioned being prepared for "wars" of the 21st century |

Will check the exact statement, but it got my attention. That's the PNAC agenda: World domination by the powerful US with weapons rather than troops. Difficult to comprehend what devastation that will produce. But guess it doesn't matter to Bushco, as long as they rule.
God help us all!
DEFEAT BUSH!!
