(Grateful Dead) Campaign Song
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 01:37 PM by BQueen
I had this tune stuck in my head -- everyone knows it from Boomers on down. Thought it would make a great campaign tune and came up with new lyrics. It's too late in the game to be coy and hope it "gets out there" by filtering thru from the one place I've posted it so far and I have no website. If there's any Kerry campaigners out there, I don't know how to get something like this thru to the candidates, so here is a punt into cyberspace since I have other obligations today....involving beer, football, and beaming over what I saw last night. :toast:

Mods - if you feel this is a lounge or meeting room topic or whatever, please feel free to move it, but I put it here because it's not a lampoon, it's more in the nature of an anthem everyone can learn. (like the old populist campaign tunes waaaaay back in the day...at least the final chorus would be a great song for campaign appearances)

Sung to The Grateful Dead's "I Need a Miracle" In our case, a clean election would be nice. I geared the age to Phish fans.

"I Need A Miracle"

I need a candidate twice my age
A man of nobility, gentility and rage
Wicked in debate, doesn’t run from fights
We’ll go right through the book to restore all legal rights.

I got a feeling and it won't go away, oh no
Just one thing then I'll be ok
I need a miracle every day.

I need a candidate twice my height
Statuesque, wavy-tressed, a beacon in the night.
His tact improves relations with the EU
Just ask the Founding Fathers, they’d back him too.

And it's real and it won't go away, oh no
I can't get around and I can't run away
I need a miracle every day.

I need a VP who can be a legal shark
A Southern Son whose tongue’s so sharp it barely leaves a mark
Found him in a mill-town not a fenced enclave
Jump on board this ticket - ride the tidal wave
And it's real, believe what I say, yeah

Just one thing I got to say
I need a miracle every day.
It took the Chimperor to rile us up
Too much of all the lies - we’ve had enough
One more thing I just got to say
Gonna get my miracle Election Day!
Record voter turnout on Election Day!
Making our own miracle Election Day, (got to be the only way)
Taking back our Country on Election Day!

Anyone scrolling thru who likes that, take it, use it, send it to Kerry :yourock: to play on his guitar, if you know Dead-head :hippie:, Phish-fans :smoke: or just yer funky Kerry supporters  who would like this -- feel free to disseminate, perform it, or serenade RW neighbors with it at 3 am, with my blessings , but please mention BQ on the Morning Sedition blog (well, you could leave off that part when annoying the neighbors B-) )

'BQ' is sort of a personal bat-signal.
thanks

sorry if that post suffers from smilie-overuse -- can you tell I'm excited?! To quote that bastion of 70's wisdom, the A-Team, "I love it when a plan comes together!"

4. actually, not a 'big' Dead Fan
did finally make it to one show cuz I wanted to be sure to see them before Jerry died. Great fun, love their tunes, and hung out with many Dead Heads over the years.

That's what made me think it would be a good one -- I knew it, or at least the chorus, and most of the tune, but I'm not a Dead Head. and it has the miracle thing, which could be a subliminal help with some of the people with weird religious issues (who often wouldn't even connect the song chorus with the Dead) and it just feels good and positive, but not maudlin.

2. I love it!
I may have to dust off the Gibson and get out my old GD songbook for that!
