Liberal writers on mixed message boards are scaring the Republicans.
Mehlman asked loyal GOPsters to print debate fact checks, post their views in message boards targeting swing-state voters, chat in person and online with would-be voters.

A candidate's performance can attract undecided voters, but what happens afterward is equally important, Mehlman said.

"People's perceptions are shaped as much by their conversations around the water coolers as by the debates themselves," the letter said.

Unfortunately the Dems don't get it, but the fact that so we Democrats do so little mixed message boarding and other net chatting with independents while the Republicans push it heavily is probably one of our biggest problems over the last decade.

And of course the Nazi attitudes the right wingers have in chat rooms and message boards is a big factor there.

If you understand that is a tactic straight out of Mein Kampf, I hope you get mad enough to help us save free speech in the boards and chats rooms out there away from the cozy liberal atmosphere.

Please take the next few weeks before the election and use them like they are our last (they might be for free speech).

Give all you can to mixed message boards. You know how Bush is. He will listen to no one but his neocons if he is elected in November.

Come here for information. Even ask for specific help if you need it, but you can also use google or any quality search engine. And save info here to help others.

If you read the rest of the article you will see that our people (the Democrats) do not have mixed message boarding on their radar. That is why we have not heard much about it's effectiveness. Well and we haven't been able to win the House and Senate in an election in a decade, as well as having a Nazi group controlling the White House and the country with little notice from the media. All our LTEs have done little to change that over the years.

Please give all the extra time you have. Try popular boards like Yahoo or AOL, Slate's Fray, or ones that intersect with your interests.

If you are being overwhelmed to the point of giving up go elsewhere or get some friend involved. The Nazi writers give up when confronted with a group that shoots down what they can say faster than their paid posters can put them up.

How this has worked in some boards is that thought that was controlled by the right has been opened up to free speech allowing undecideds and other concerned people to express their true feelings without being immediately, irrevocably shot down by the paid right wing board crews.

The times that this has happened coincided with the times that Bush's poll numbers have fallen.

17. Suggestion
Don't go on as yourself. Go on as a "good democrat". Make up a first name and occupation and location. Mostly cut and paste from here. Treat it as a sales job. Don't invest emotionally.

3. I just don't know if it is possible
to make a freeper think or believe they way that we do. I am beginning to believe that Dem's are born, not made. It's like there are two whole different ideologies going on, republicans being material and Dem's being spiritual.

10. It's not possible
That's why I avoid "mixed boards" because everybody posting there already has their mind made up. Writing responses to them (and I have tried this) does not change their minds. I can quote facts upon facts and they blame it all on the "liberal media." It's not worth the time.

12. Changing a freepers mind is not the goal
The goal is make a show out of challenging them. Regular posters on these boards I find get tired of constantly refuting the lies so they just let them pass. However that gives casual readers the idea that the lie is simple accepted fact. The prime example would be "Al Gore invented the internet" or "Kerry voted against the 87 billion".

You can tell when the board has been beaten down cause these memes just fly around unchallenged day in and day out.

Once you start challenging them, and citing the facts each and every time the lie is told you do two things. You train the freeper that it is too much work to keep telling the lie, cause you will hit them each time, and soon grudgingly they will abandon it.

Secondly you send the message to the rest of the board that these are not simply accepted facts, but assertions open to challenge and exposure as outright lies in many cases.

You'll never change the freeper, but you can change the tone of the baord.

4. I have always had a sense this was the case.
I do everything I can on a couple of message boards to counter neo-con spin.

I recently joined a mtbr.com (a mountain bike board) and found their political board to be overrun with lie spewing cons.

I immediately dedicated a few hours every day to beating them over the head with every lie they told, and then humiliating them mercilessly after proving them wrong. They hate me intensely there, but it is because they can't stand having to bakc up their statements (cause they never can). Things have already started to swing over and a few new libs have started to join the fight too.

That's another thing, once there is a critical mass of vocal and aggressive libs on a board, some of the more timid ones learn it is OK to fight.

You gotta set the tone. attack attack attack... and attack some more.

11. They do this everywhere
From imdb.com to semi-political message boards. The following is from the Dean blog many moons ago. The same applies everywhere.

BLOG PRIMER (reminder)

For those of you new to the campaign or this blog, welcome. Here are a few tips on the blog and the trolls (message board sociopaths).

This blog is a great place to pick up on breaking news and to provide feedback to our people-powered campaign. Read it, Post on it. Get involved and help take your country back!

You can also dismiss some of the posts here – Don’t get too upset with the negative anti-Dean or anti-(fill in the name of the canidate) B.S. you see. Those negative posts usually come from trolls. Trolls post here for one reason only; to disrupt the conversation. You will never know who they are or whom they support, regardless of the content of the post or the name. One person may be posting under different names, with different genders. They may even be paid operatives. It might be easier for you if you just think of every one of them as Karl Rove (Bush's right hand man and top political advisor who built his career in politics for him). Also, beware the stealth-troll post; the one that starts with something like “I was supporting Dr. Dean, but ever since…” These trolls want to start a Dean-bashing session. The best way to deal with them is to ignore them completely. Scroll over their vile garbage. NEVER respond to a troll, and NEVER use the name of a troll in your own posts. I must confess however that I from time to time respond with a (scroll) message to let it be known that their garbage is not being read and make it known that there is nothing worth reading from them.

These "Clark" trolls are not Clark supporters (just like Kerry Trolls are not real Kerry supporters and so on). They are FREEPER/GOP provocateurs. Real Clark, Kerry, Gephardt, etc. supporters are not "anti-Dean", and are busy working to get their respective candidates the nomination. Real supporters of the other candidates are posting on their own blogs, not spending 24/7 here.

These are not Clark (or other candidate) supporters, these are not even Dem supporters. They are FREEPER (Free Republic, aka the loony Clinton killed Vince Foster rabid-right) trolls. Thus some Dean supporters are lured into misguided, fact devoid anti-Clark posts in retaliation. If you find yourself tempted to do this, be aware that such retaliatory posts do NOTHING to help Dean, do NOTHING to help Dems, and do NOTHING but increase acrimony between camps while it DOES help sow dissent within the Dem camps. This of course HELPS Chimpy (aka "President" Bush). In fact some of the apparent Dean supporter anti-(Insert name here) retaliatory attacks are sometimes not even Dem or Dean supporters as well. Just sock puppets (a poster posting as multiple people under different names) in order to flood the blog with their inane garbage and increase the acrimony. Their ideal end goal is to instigating a flame war between blogs and camps and make themselves the focus of conversation and debate. It is a surprisingly common tactic of trolls.

Occasionally a troll here is a single-issue extremist, who seeks to use the high-visibility of this blog to further their own axe-grinding agenda. This is akin to the old rainbow head wig guy (dating myself here) who used to go to sporting events back in the late 70s and early 80s in order to get on camera and hold up a "John 3:16" sign during free-throw shots, etc. So don't be fooled by trolls. Don't respond with intra-party flames and attacks. We will need the REAL Clark supporters, and the REAL Gep supporters, REAL Kerry supporters, etc. come November. Never forget that. Right now those supporters and their chosen candidates are our competition, but they are not, nor should they be our enemy.

Furthermore, the Press regularly monitors this site. They are mostly interested in getting a by-line and some fast press with a blog-bite. You’ll see reports citing blog posts, usually from trolls, taken out of context and reported on the press as indicative of the campaign. The best way to deal with bad press is to write to the editor, cancel your subscriptions, donate to Dr. Dean and stop watching the corporate news. We’re onto them now. Maybe one day we’ll see real journalism replace the corporate sound-bite reporting mentality, but it won’t be anytime soon. (My apologies to the few members of the press out here who actually ‘get’ what this is about, and are able to file complete stories without bias – we’re learning who you are, and we thank you and your organizations for speaking the truth).

Finally, a safety Tip: You may not wish to use your real email address, as they are picked up and you may get some nasty stuff from the gutter, and when you do post, try to keep your posts short (shorter than this one anyway).

13. Sorry but your wording makes me chuckle
"Mixed message" boards makes me think of Bush up there sweating and drooling during the first debate, yelling about the "mixed messages" that Kerry sends.
