I'm not sayin' Kerry will lose, I'm just sayin' we need a plan. For me? Anarchy. Big time.

2. I think a good plan is to keep your mouth shut about any plan.
You are standing in a virtual open square.

My advice is to watch what you say, because people are listening and they're not all sympathetic to your position.

3. And after you get out of jail, what're ya going ta do?
Actually, the right has already co-opted anarchy. We can do better.

4. I'm sick of being told to watch what I say.
We live in AMERICA, remember? They hate us for our freedom.

9. If you talk about making plans to break the law
here. It reflects poorly on all of us.

Anyway, it's just foolish to vocalize your subversive plans in public. It puts a huge bullseye on you and the progressive movement here at DU in general.

11. Did I say I had a plan? Did I spell out a subversive ploy?
I'm just a dork from East Oshkosh. I have no plan. Just anger.

Sorry if I misunderstood, but to me this looks like a pretty clear indication of what you are planning to do.

Someone not sympathetic to your anger might see that and misundertand where you're coming from.

There is a big line between anarchy and activism. Don't lose sight of that.

5. Looking at Leaving
I've been looking at what it would take to emigrate. It's easy to just say "leave," but much more complex to actually do it.

There aren't a lot of countries that want you unless you are bringing a shitload of money with you. There will be even fewer if the "exuent stage left" meme spreads. And many do not want your skills precisely because you compete for jobs against their native-born. Can't say I blame them, either.

I'm too old to be conventionally drafted and too unlettered for the "skills draft" (for once not getting that college degree has paid off, woo-hoo). But I also wrote an infamously sick web novel and I've left plenty of well-archived reminders online that I'm not a Company Man for the New World Order. There are a few places in the third world that will take a non-rich American emigre but those are likely to be closed off (and to become hostile for Americans already living there) if the home country goes totally apeshit.

I really don't know what to do. I guess what I'll do is have another drink.

13. At the risk of invoking Godwin
...there were lots of people who felt that way in 1939 in another nominally secular democracy. Staying didn't help them.

You're right in a sense, of course, but I don't feel like being the only ant to stand up against a steamroller. Actually, coming here is one of the few things that gives me the strength to think we might prevail if it does come down to civil war. There are an awful lot of people out there whose heads are screwed on right. It's not a thing that's obvious if you watch too much TV or even spend too much time hanging around with dittoheads as my work requires me to do.

In any case however much "I'm outta here" might make a nice sound bite, the reality is most of us wouldn't be able to do it even if we wanted to.

8. General strike. Agreed. Plan B.
March. Sit in at federal buildings. Network with all the supporters you've met while volunteering, and make sure the media hears us roar.

But it is very difficult to do when you've got a family to care for.

19. Yeah? It's also tough to take care of a family when...
You have no job... or you have a crappy one... or no health care... or an Iraqi bullet in your head... or you're in prison for taking the wrong book outta the library... or... or... or...

16. I say we
we organize a huge march on the Capitol when they have the commitee of the whole to certify the election, 350,000-500,000 people is probably enough to at least make sure we are heard. Maybe we could get enough support for a special election.

17. We May Not Have To Do Anything
"IF" Tush got in and went ahead with their plans for wars and start dragging people's kids into the military, destroys the economy even more, sends more jobs overseas and interns people like Asscroft would love to, the scales will finally fall off the eyes of those red staters. It may be pass the popcorn time for us.

18. ECONOMIC BOYCOTT
I've been practicing it for years. Buy as little as you need to survive (you know, food, maybe a bit of winter clothes, etc.). It will not only ruin the capitalist pigs, it will build your character in the process.
