but I have already contacted Michael Moore, the sinclair offices, and KGAN TV in Cedar Rapids, IA. Would urge others to do the same. We need an all-out economic lockdown on these assholes.

14. I contacted the Florida Dem Party
They are in Tallahassee where there are two Sinclair stations. I suggest that everyone contact their state and local Dem parties. Do Moveon.org, and ACT and all the other Dem leaning groups know?

I apologize if all of this has been hashed over, but I'm trying to make sure that all bases are covered.

10. information on Mark Hyman

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A22859-2004Sep ...

"Members of the anti-Kerry Swift Boat Veterans for Truth say the report vindicates their claim that Kerry didn't show the kind of valor that merits a Silver Star. The after-action report was obtained from the Navy archives by syndicated TV commentator Mark Hyman of 'The Point.' A Navy official confirmed its authenticity."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
http://talkleft.com/new_archives/006291.html

SINCLAIR PRODUCES CENTRALIZED RIGHT-WING CONTENT FOR 'LOCAL STATIONS': In a controversial business practice, Sinclair Broadcasting has fired much of the staff for the local affiliates it owns, instead producing content for its local stations from a central facility outside Baltimore which it then airs on "local" news broadcasts. The centralized content features nightly commentary by Sinclair corporate communications chief Mark Hyman. Hyman regularly refers to the French as "cheese-eating surrender monkeys," the so-called liberal media as the "hate-America crowd," and progressives as "the lonely left" On one recent commentary, Hyman called members of Congress who voted against a recent resolution affirming the righteousness of the Iraq war "unpatriotic politicians who hate our military." You can see all of Hyman's commentaries this month HERE. (Read more from American Progress about the problems of media consolidation.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
http://thecounterpoint.blogspot.com /

It takes a lot to shock us at “The Counterpoint.” There’s very little that Mark Hyman can come up with that seems outlandish or beyond the pale when compared to his typical outing. So it’s always quite the event when he manages to take his rhetorical bathysphere to new and uncharted ethical lows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
http://liberalmediaconspiracy.blogspot.com/2004_04_25_l...

What about Mark Hyman, the host of "The Point", a Rush-wing editorial presentation regularly shown on all Sinclair stations? I understand that Sinclair has made political donations of over $65,000 so far in 2004, 98% of it going to the GOP. Hyman is VP of Corporate Communications.

Trillion-Dollar Story

By Howard Kurtz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, September 15, 2004; 3:03 PM

snip...
Thought the Swifties were fading away? Guess again:

"A newly surfaced document from John Kerry's Navy record says he shot a lone, wounded enemy who was running away in the incident that led to his Silver Star, his highest military decoration," says the New York Post.

Kerry campaign officials said they would not respond to the story until they saw the documents.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A22859-2004Sep...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.politicaljuice.com/2004/week18 /

And just like Fox News, Sinclair's News Central is getting some heat from some establishment media outlets for offering a more balanced and less liberal-leaning news report.

Sinclair relishes the criticism.

"Basically, in the red states," says Sinclair's Vice President for Corporate Affairs Mark Hyman in a NewsMax interview, referring to the markets SBG serves -- mostly in "red" states George Bush won in the 2000 election.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
HYman is also an embedded CIA spook (with a specialty in propaganda)

11. CEO ARRESTED FOR PROSTITUTION STORY HERE:
http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2004/05/287287.shtml

Sinclair Broadcasting's David Smith Busted In Prostitution Sting
author: reposted

David Deniston Smith, president and chief executive officer of Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc., was charged with committing an unnatural and perverted sex act in a company-owned Mercedes. He was arrested in an undercover sting a Read and St. Paul streets, a downtown corner frequented by prostitutes.

Police said Mary DiPaulo, 31, ran across the street to a 1992 Mercedes, registered to Sinclair, and got in on the passenger side. Police followed the car onto the Jones Falls Expressway, where they said they witnessed the two engage in oral sex while Smith drove north.

21. Also see thread "Sinclair creates a great opportunity..."
According to Smith's prostitute, he was her "regular date".
I guess he considered her a fox.

It looks like this was not a one-time offense, and it was
a company car.

Is he still committing sex offenses?

Maybe we should ask Fox News etc.

12. In Markets Where Sinclair Operates, Contact NON-Sinclair Stations
Appeal to the non-Sinclair affiliates' desire to get one over on their broadcasting cross-town rivals. These stations may represent the best opportunity to publicize Sinclair's plans where it really counts: among the affected viewing audiences.

17. Using an InFocus projector, play F9/11 on loc. affilliates' exterior walls
Inform the public via leafletting that there will be FREE showings of Fahrenheight 9/11, Outfoxed, and/or Hunting of the President.

Assemble at the local affilliate sites the evening Sinclair pulls their shit. Bring a laptop and a computer projecter, aimed at their buildings. If these affilliate stations will not broadcast a rebuttal or equal time material, then make some equal time appear on their walls.

18. Lets play offense as well as defense on this one:
The inevitable response to any campaign will be "Democrats are urging censorship", and we should be prepared for that... But I can't imagine voters in these states will appreciate corporate bigwigs telling them who to vote for-- I'm just stringing preliminary ideas together right now in my head-- but maybe there's a way to turn the whole story, via the get-out-the-info campaign, into a PR win for us.

Sinclair as part of their local programming? If they do, we could complain to them also. It is not right that they interrupt programming we are paying for.

24. A Formal Complaint should be filed with the FEC....
that's what the Repubs and Citzens' United did against F 9/11 in June. Although the FEC general counsel drafted an opinion that political filmakers shouldn't be allowed to AIR their ads for documentaries within 60 days of the general election, the FEC gave the go-ahead for ads. But this appears to be a violation of BCRA.

27. cable and sattelite providers
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 11:59 PM by LeftyMom
Here's the page to seee what directv offers for local broadcast.
http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/LocalChannelsAction.do Here in Sacramento they do offer the Sinclair station (channel 13.)

Here's dish's page. http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/programming/locals/index.shtml
They have channel 13 too.

So we do know that both satelite providers carry a Sinclair station in at least one large media market (#19 in the country, according to Nielsen,) so they're a valid target for letter campaigns. Cable companies, too. Locally Comcast offers channel 13. Hopefully others will post with other cable carriers that could be contacted if we decide to go that route.

We gotta do something about these creeps, I'm sick to seeing that smarmy looser to the two minutes hate everytime I forget to change the channel after CSI.

-Leftymom

Edited to add: I responed to that wrong post. I am a dork. Feel free to throw overripe fruit in my direction. :)
