Got a call from Barry Switzer the other day...
Just letting me know he supports Brad Carson (D-OK)

By the way, Carson's a Dem so I'm gonna vote for him, but I'm gonna have to hold my nose to do it. I REALLY want the Senate back. Check this out, though. Carson's running an ad where his wife says, "Tom Coburn has called my husband evil, something else, and even a liberal!" Carson then says "Tom knows I'm not any of those things"

What a crock of shit. Dude, don't make it look BAD to be a liberal. Motherfuckers can call me liberal all day. Doesn't bother me at all.

1. Good to know that Switzer is a Carson supporter....
..however much of a compromise Carson might be.

I guess Switzer might be a good candidate, but then how could he coach OU?

GO SOONERS!!!!

2. Barry Switzer is a Dem??
Man, I remember the glorious hate-fests that used to go on back in my college days at UT when he was coach at OU. What a scumbag. Maybe I'll change my opinion a bit if he's a Dem...

And, before anyone points it out, I KNOW TEXAS LOST TODAY. Sigh! One day. At least it wasn't 64-0. Still love the 'Horns, though.

3. Switzer has a very Clintonesque life story
His book "Bootleggers Boy" was an eye-opener. His stories about how the black kids and their families just loved him were interesting. As you may recall, Switzer got a lot of the great black players from Texas because back then, they weren't welcome at UT.

4. He has been very active in Oklahoma politics lately
Switzer was given credit for helping Brad Henry defeat bullshit Steve Largent in the 2002 gov race. This spring he backed John Edwards in the Oklahoma primary and Edwards's late surge that nearly caught Wesley Clark was attributed partially to Switzer.

I always knew Barry was a good guy. As a diehard Sooner fan, albeit in Miami, during the '70s and '80s I sent two letters to Switzer regarding the football team. He responded to both of them in great detail.

5. You're so right
First, he DID help Henry get elected. It's like our football hero trumped their football hero. Second, his endorsement of Edwards was definitely a factor in Edwards' late surge. They polled several people after the primary and they said they voted for Edwards because "that's who Coach Switzer said to vote for." Unbelievable.

The stories about his responses back to you are cool too.
