21. Me too along with many of my
friends but alas I fear that my wonderful will still become elephant crap! It could surprise me. Part of the problem is that the democrat party isn't as vocal as it should be, but I suppose it is doing the best it can given how rethuglicans control everything.

2. I would love the poetry of the Red Sox beating the Astros...
In the World Series. Massachusetts over Texas. Followed up by a similar political outcome.

8. Well, I'd be fair. I'll take a Kerry win and an Astros win, thank you.
Us poor folks down here in Texas have had to suffer through this Son-of-a-Bush for a long, damn time. Give our Astros a break -- they aren't George & Barbara's team.

Polls show that Houston is favoring Kerry over Bush. Houston is a melting pot with lots of Democrats. It's Deep East Texas near the Louisiana border (Southerners) and West Texas (cowboys and independent oil people) who favor Bush. North Texas and South Texas are way more Democratic, with the Democrats getting stronger the further south you go toward the border.

If Texas doesn't go blue this election -- I guarantee it will in 2008.

24. My Picks: Kerry & Sox in Houston
Red Sox fan transplanted to Houston, here. ;)

But I agree with your analysis; this state is a lot closer to purple than pundits think.

5. it would be sweet-and unseat (exterminate)Tom DeLay at the same time.
Any help for his opponent, Richard Robert Morrison, who is being outspent by DeLay almost 8 to 1.

7. I've always thought it was very possible
If we exploit Shrub's weakness on BSE abatement (he probably thinks slaughtering downers for human consumption and feeding beef byproducts to cattle are good ideas) we can RUIN that son of a bitch in the state of Texas.

Meat farming is a huge business in Texas, second only to oil, and Bush is leaving America vulnerable to having its meat exports blocked by the EU, Japan, Canada...all the major markets. It's happened before and will happen again if Bush doesn't get his shit together on BSE.

The American meat industry will collapse if it can't export, and under Shrub it's on the verge of being permanently barred from exporting its products.

That's how we win Texas. By having a plan that is affordable and that works.

10. I just don't see it happening.
Bush* is still popular here. Why? I can't for the life of me figure out. It's like most of the state is in a "conservative" cult. Facts mean nothing, logic means nothing, poor results mean nothing, failures mean nothing. They just "know" he is a good president. It's like talking to a friggin' brick wall.

but I do think it's going to be much closer than last time.

Pretty much the only group that seems to strongly support Bush this time around is the fundies.

12. It would be poetic justice if Junior lost Texas, Connecticut, and Maine!
And, I'd especially love to see him lose in Crawford and in Kennebunkport!

Of course, a loss in Florida would be the 'icing on the cake'.

:D

I live about 70 miles from Crawford. I have a friend that went though there last week. "Lots of Bush signs, hardly any Kerry ones", was his report.

and I only saw 2 Kerry signs the whole way. Did see some Chet Edwards, though. Course this part of Texas has Fort Hood and Baylor.

15. Wishful thinking.
In my rural Texas town, Kerry signs are few, (I have seen less than five.) but Bush signs are plentiful.

17. Texas will surprise people...
I've never seen so many bumper stickers for the Democrat here in my part of Texas, and as an adult I've been watching it since the election of 1980.

As I posted a short time ago on another thread...
I live in a Republican area of Texas, and I see more Kerry stickers than Bush. Today at a soccer game, everyone in our section of the stands was for Kerry. One lady said that everyone in her office was for Kerry.

I think the Texas vote totals will surprise people, even if we don't go blue this year

22. I hope so
Someone did take down a bunch of Bush/Barton signs around put up by Smokey Joe Barton supporters. He's running for re-election in the House. I can't stand that man.

there isn't poetic justice. Bush will win Texas.

Nice thought, however.

...tonight..went past 14 Kerry signs on my short drive home not including me and my family that added 4 to that..:)

Wore my "John Kerry...bringing complete sentences back to the White House." Shirt today..had 4 people stop me to give me the thumbs up, say how good he did in both debates. Postman came to my door to deliver stuff and stayed for 10 minutes saying we HAD to get * out...he hated him.

Great Day!

27. Houston will go Kerry for sure
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 11:25 PM by CitySky
Today I gave away my Kerry pin to the Home Depot cashier who admired it (had more at home.) She promptly pinned it on her orange apron. Hope it didn't get her in trouble!

There is also tremendous energy at all of the Dem gatherings and campaigns. do check out www.morrisonfor22.com

When I first moved here about 2 years ago, I thought all of the other white people in Texas were Republicans. Have learned better since. My fave moment: was set up on a date of sorts in Dallas last November, guy is a white Texan small business owner. When talk somehow veers toward politics, I get that knot in my gut.

Date confesses, "welllll, I call myself an Independent but really do lean Republican most of the time. BUT IF I COULD TAKE BACK MY VOTE FOR GEORGE W. BUSH, I WOULD!" Goes on to explain that his ultra-conservative father feels the same way, because of the deficit.

Well needless to say I was tremendously relieved. That fellow and I are still on pretty good terms, actually. ;)
