5. All - I live in Utah -State with a 40 point cushion for Georgie Porgie
Salt Lake Tribune
Deseret Morning News

Utah, the most Repuke-lickin state in the Union.
From me to all of you, you really should try talking sense to most
of the people around here. Vast majorities of them don't even believe that dinosaurs ever walked on the planet. Yup, they never
existed. The good Lord dragged them dead dino bones over here so as to be able to plant them over in the middle east so that they could turn to oil one day and thus become the catalyst of Armageddon

23. I was in a play in Salt Lake City one time
It's a beautiful place - absolutely beautiful. We visited Zion and Brice national parks too. Amazing. The people were very friendly but they all looked like either local television news anchors or televangelists. Very strange. One thing my girlfriend and I did agree on. Utah has, without question, the cleanest restrooms that you'll ever find anywhere in the country and possibly the world. Even the bathrooms at gas stations are spotless. There's something to be said for that :)

Voters' choice is clear: John Kerry for president

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER EDITORIAL BOARD

John Kerry should be the next president of the United States. This endorsement is based not only on President Bush's failings -- which are manifest -- but also on the conclusion that Kerry can succeed where Bush has failed.

(snip)

George W. Bush has failed America on the economy, civil liberties, the environment, nuclear proliferation and, most unforgivable, on national security by leading us into a demonstrably unnecessary war in Iraq that has distracted our attention from and diminished our capability to fight a comprehensive global war on terror.
Kerry is intellectually and ideologically equipped to succeed where Bush has failed. The obvious prospects for that success lie in his military, congressional and international experience, his superior intellectual curiosity and willingness to consider dissenting opinions, his commitment to protecting the civil liberties of all Americans and his potential to surround himself with a broad coalition of competent Cabinet members, staff and advisers.

21. In NYC I think it'll be The Post, The Sun and the WSJ
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 08:56 PM by HootieMcBoob
The Post of course is Rupert's Rag and The Sun is the relatively new right wing very pro-Israel conservative rag.

The Wall Street Journal will probably go Bush since its editorial page is a major cog in the vast right wing echo chamber conspiracy machine thingy but the chimp has been such a miserable failure that even they might surprise...

For Kerry in NYC:

The New York Times
The Daily News
Newsday
The Amsterdam News
The Observer
The Village Voice
New York Press

And probably every other one that I can't think of.

I'm sure of it. They are often accused of being a "liberal" newspaper by the fundies but they always do their research and produce very level-headed and well thought out endorsements, imo.

Detroit, Tucson Dailies Endorse Kerry; Lowell and Pueblo for Bush

NEW YORK The Democratic candidate for president appears to have an early lead in major daily newspaper endorsements. In the past two days, Senator John Kerry has picked up the backing of the Detroit Free Press and Tucson's Arizona Daily Star.

Other metro papers backing Kerry so far include The Seattle Times and The Philadelphia Daily News. The Las Vegas (Nev.) Review-Journal and the Amarillo, Texas, daily have picked Bush, as E&P noted previously. The Lowell (Ma.) Sun and Pueblo (Colo.) Chieftain both went for Bush in the past week. Few papers have endorsed either candidate so far.

The Detroit Free Press endorsed Kerry on Monday, lamenting that "the nation is more divided in more ways than it has been since the turbulent 1960s. The president has failed, or refused, to pursue consensus on America's problems and instigated solutions that have produced results ranging from mixed to disastrous.

31. Detroit Free Press: John Kerry would offer more effective leadership
ENDORSEMENT: On Iraq, national security, the economy and more, John Kerry would offer more effective leadership

Four years ago, George W. Bush promised America he was "a uniter, not a divider." Today, the nation is more divided in more ways than it has been since the turbulent 1960s. The president has failed, or refused, to pursue consensus on America's problems and instigated solutions that have produced results ranging from mixed to disastrous.

As president, Bush has plunged America into a costly war under false premises, alienated nations with whom America should be mapping a global strategy against terrorism, managed the most secretive administration in modern times, run up huge budget deficits, deceived Congress on the cost of a Medicare drug plan, and effectively denied women around the world access to information about reproductive health.

Since courageously uniting and rallying the nation following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Bush has become a polarizing figure at home and abroad. He, at least, is sufficiently resolute in his course and convictions that he doesn't appeared troubled by that. But he ought to be. Nobody is right about everything all the time.

The American people will always be grateful to George W. Bush for his leadership after 9/11. But it is not the best leadership for America at this point in history.

32. Connecticut - all for Bush, except maybe 1
I think almost all the major newspapers in CT are controlled by the Tribune Co (Conrad Black...)

The Hartford Courant traditionally endorses Republicans (Clinton in '96 was their first since FDR)

New Haven Register, Waterbury Republican, Manchester Jouranl Inquirer, Connecticut Post, Stamford Advocate, Danbury News-Times are all controlled by some RWers.

I think the New London Day is still independent, so Kerry has a shot there.

41. Slime Ball Washington Post will go Bush. Already have!
They, along with the NYT, have endorsed Bush on a de facto basis through promoting the self-imposed truce on presidential criticism and hawking the pathetic, delusional, mendacious build up of the war. These are crimes against responsible journalism that the Washington Post will bear forever. Even if they endorse Kerry it will be tongue-in-cheek. Everybody with any type of intelligence in the DC area knows that the Post is a whore operation. My hope is that a Kerry victory will energize the Democrats and, as a result, we will have an alternative in this area. If we do, The Post is toast!
