How would President Gore be doing right now?
Interesting to think if he would've won reelection. But it IS difficult for a party to hold the White House for more than 3 terms.

If we assume LIHOP et al is true and he prevents 9/11, he would obviously be an absolute hero, but we wouldn't even know about it. The recession would've probably still happened, though it wouldn't have been as bad. Right now we'd be fairly prosperous and unlike * he wouldn't have a distinction no other president since Hoover has of losing jobs. The Republicans would probably still have Congress though, and like with Clinton would have his hands tied for the most part. We'd still probably have a surplus though at least, but simply saying he kept a decent status quo isn't a strong campaign to run on. Also tough to say who the Republicans would run, but I'd bet even they wouldn't be dumb enough to run * again. If he was facing McCain, he'd probably be behind right now but I'd say he'd have a shot.

If 9/11 does happen, Gore wouldn't have been much different at first. He would've went into Afghanistan, but would've spent much more resources there since they'd be available. Afghanistan would be running a lot more smoothly now, since there'd be far reaching international support for the US. Security would've definately been tightened after 9/11 and something like the Patriot Act would've probably passed, although it would be nowhere near as bad. After that I think Gore would go a little more low-key and focus on cutting ties to terrorist nations and hitting them more surgically, not the sucking up to the Saudis * is. Unfortunately this wouldn't work with the public, the Republicans would say he wasn't pursuing terrorists enough because he only attacked one country and of course would blame him for 9/11 since it was on his watch. He'd probably be weak due to this and would be losing right now unless the Republicans nominated Tom DeLay or someone. Unless of course by spending more resources on Afghanistan and having more international support, he'd actually catch bin Laden. That'd make him a shoo-in.

1. that sounds about right.
I also predict that he'd've appointed a replacement to John Paul Stevens on the court. Hopefully a nice, liberal replacement.. but we don't know how the composition of the Senate would've gone at the midterm.

I wonder if O'Connor would've stepped-down? Or Ginsburg?

3. Gore would have been taken out in the first 100 days
He would have met the fate of either Clinton, Carter or Kennedy. Another Democrat in the White house would have been untenable to the NeoCons.

If Kerry plans on an effective presidency he'd better plan on a full scale purge. This is war, it's time to treat it as such.

Could the patriot act be used to "disappear" the NeoCon traitors? I'd prefer to see trials, but the cancer may be to deep.

5. I hope some of them end up in jail
I wish it was "cool" to be "liberal" again. Nowadays it's tossed around like an insult.

4. He would have done all of these things
and he would have been impeached anyway and Lieberman would be president right now, about 35 points down in the polls in his bid for reelection against John McCain.

6. And I would support the good Senator McCain over Lieberman
I like independent thinkers. But the establishment would never allow McCain to be president. I suspect that's why they screwed Gore over--they found out that he wasn't one of them.
