<An in-and-out affair for Former Vice President Al Gore`s St. Joseph visit. But while he was here, the former VP spoke to a supportive audience. The recent Vice President Cheney event was bigger and more planned out, but support from the un-screened crowd that gathered for Gore`s speech is unmistakable. Democrat Gore did what was expected and spoke in favor of voting for the Democratic Kerry/Edwards ticket using the last debate as his springboard and said, "John Kerry not only had all the facts at his command and good policies and talkin` about what the nation needed to be doing, but he also had right at his fingertips, the exact impact on the state of Missouri every single time." Humor took up a large part of Gore`s speech. "I flew on Air Force-II for eight years and now most times I have to take off my shoes to get on an airplaine." "I`m concerned...I was the first one laid-off." "You know the character, Mr. Burns from The Simpsons? Didn`t Dick Cheney remind you of Mr. Burns," are some of the quips the audience heard at St. Joseph`s Firefighters` Union Hall. But he became serious when he talked specifically about St. Joe by mentioning some of the specific area companies that have closed during the past four years. When asked, "Why a firefighters` hall for Al Gore`s speech?" A campaign spokesperson says, simply, "A union hall is a perfect place for a democratic rally.">
