Damn. "Going Upriver" brought me to tears. |

Although I volunteered to serve in the military in 1973, I chose the Air Force, and thus never had to hold a weapon, other than two days in basic training when I learned how to shoot the M-16 automatic rifle. After basic I was stationed in rural England, where I worked in a fenced off building outside a small village. Never having had the chance at a higher education, and not having the money to explore the world properly, I stayed a naive little child far too long and remained unaware of most of what was portrayed in this presentation.
I hereby propose We The People create a new Citizen's Award medal and make John Kerry the first recipient at some point in time, preferably before he is sworn in. It is something he and his fellow Vietnam veterans deserve, having had the courage to give their well-earned war medals back during their great protest. He and the veterans who followed him throughout the protests in Washington did more for our country than most know, and a hell of a lot more than many will ever be willing to admit.
He is a giant of a man, made that much taller every time that tiny spoiled child walks into the same room with him. I can't imagine what kind of movie they would ever make of George Bush's early years, except to imagine it would end up greatly resembling "Animal House". The difference is there for the world to see and judge. I have now so judged. John Kerry, I salute you, sir.
"Though men of small mind and less character may project themselves onto their fellow citizens and suggest that an America that admits its mistakes will turn into a craven, hollow place, we will continue this struggle, because this country is bigger than they are, and it's bigger than any of us here." --John Kerry

5. I took two young people... |
|
and their mothers to the movie the weekend it opened here in Dallas. All of them were touched beyond words.
I have followed Kerry for 8 months now, so the movie, while beautifully made and pleased the dreamer in me, was not very new to me.
But to them it was and it was a pleasure to have shown them the John Kerry that America and the world so desperately needs right now...

Yes to the medal (just as long as it isn't really dorky or anything), and YES to the movie.
I wept.
Kerry is the real deal.

11. Rather than running Moore's film on TV just before the |
|
elections, I wish they would run this movie. I haven't seen it, but understand it puts Kerry in a extremely positive light, which would help more than putting Bush down. Most people who want to have seen Moore's movie, but even I haven't seen this one.

14. THIS is our antidote to the Sinclair movie! |
|
A direct rebuttal, showing the good Kerry did.
I cried too. Good thing it was a late showing on Sunday. I was able to cry in peace.
There were just too many parallels to our own situation. A president who won't admit he's wrong. Pictures that looked eerily like ones from Abu Ghraib.
When John said the words we've all heard so many times before, "How can you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake," I just lost it. I didn't expect that.
