I could see plenty of comic potential in his performance on Fri. I am dying to know how they are portraying Furious George.

and, I think, the real names of the people asking the questions.
Bush appears like a mad man. And the way he was jumping on poor Gibson..

The jokes need to have at least a ring of truth to them to be funny.

They're nailing Bush on the stuff that really happened. Not making much fun of Kerry (except for a bit of name-dropping and "I have a plan!"). But since Kerry didn't fuck up, it's hard to make fun of him. Bush is clearly the target of this skit.

first they started with Bush almost verbatim, and then delved into some fictional wood jokes. It was great.

They're just repeating actual lines, "internets," "wood." It's sort of funny, but they haven't really written anything of their own.

The debate provided enough material.
This is good. They have to take slams at Kerry to be non-biased, but Bush gave them so much good amo . . .

35. Good, but bush should have been screaming his answers. Unlike last |
|
week, the lampooning of Kerry was based on what actually happened at the debate than on stale repug talking points. The best thing was bush bouncing from his seat, but his low key delivery was still based on the first debate. bush, however, in the second debate was yelling at the audience most of the night. Overall, much better than last week, and they were gentle on Kerry.

First, I have to admit I'd run off with the Queen in a second.
The Debate sketch, Short & Curly, the Basketball recruiters with the old school grandfather, racial tension headaches, Vote or Die in the hood. All strong. One of the better shows I've seen in a long time.
Now, where can I get some weed? hehehehehe

Too bad the audience didn't seem to get that one, but I always love Robert Smigel's cartoons.
Bush: "Can you write a song?"
Toby Keith: "Got a tragedy?"
I don't know... each generation blasts the current incarnation of SNL, then once the cast shifts around again, those shows that were mocked suddenly become praised as the good old days. There's still a lot of good comedy to be found there, and truthfully, there was always crap, even back during the original Not Ready For Primetime Player days. I may be biased though, as I've got a crush on Tina Fey.

It's trendy to bash the hell outta SNL. For not having a Hartman, Ferrell, or Belushi; for not having any good recurring characters; for having too many recurring characters; etc..
But considering their timetable for writing this stuff, it's pretty good. Especially when you're not sober. And especially when it's a political year.

|
I thought Queen Latifah was great in that Martha Stewart Sketch. She's got some comedy skills. And I didn't realize her voice was that good. Although I would have preffed different songs. They were supposedly "standards" but I didn't recognize either of them. I bet she'd kick a** doing some Etta James material.
