...at least, that's what the media wants everyone to believe.
If Kerry were to mention Abu Ghraib, the media whores would spin it as impugning the honor of all soldiers and blaming Bush for things out of his control. Yes, we know that the White House authorized "stressful positions," and issued memos defending Bush's right to torture, etc., but the media hasn't been reporting this as much (usually only when during interviews with Hirsch), so most Americans are probably unaware of the memos and policies. To them, Abu Ghraib is just an unfortunate incident concerning some bad apples; surely, Bush is incompetent, but he wouldn't authorize torture!

4. Same reason he won't bring up the Admin lying to the UN |
|
and the other international idiocies conducted by this President.
The fact is he doesn't want to state that the US was wrong on a number of fronts because that would leave him in a weaker negotiating position when he becomes president.
It would also cause a major backlash among US voters. Look what happened last time he told the truth about a bullshit war: about half of the US still hasn't forgiven him.

5. Cause he knows it will continue. |

I think it's because that shit will continue under his watch. War is fucked up. War is killing people and blowing shit up. You need to desensitize the troops so they can kill. I've heard stories... but I guess we all have. Some of you might have been there and done that, I don't know.
If we stay at war, that shit's going to keep on happening. I think Kerry knows that. He wouldn't sanction that officially, and would distance himself from it as much as possible, and even send the orders down the line to stay away from it. That doesn't mean it's not going to happen. There's a reason GWB didn't want to join the international criminal court. I'll bet Kerry won't join it either. Our boys and girls could have been hung for the shit they pulled over there. That is NOT good for morale, either here at home or abroad.
There's no other justification for not wanting to join. If you're not at war you have no problems. If you're the victim, you have every reason to join. What's that leave?

6. because saying anything bad about our troops |
|
is the kiss of death. we NEED to believe that we are an infallable, moral country. it would be political suicide to pop that bubble.
