Zogby: Bush losing military vote (& other tidbits)
The following data are clipped from a Zogby poll report sent to me after doing an online poll:

(Utica, NY)- As the candidates prepare for the second presidential debate, President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry are locked in a statistical dead heat (46%-45%), according to a new Reuters/Zogby daily tracking poll. The telephone poll of 1216 likely voters was conducted from Tuesday through Thursday (October 5-7,2004). The margin of error is +/- 2.9 percentage points.

Individuals looking for someone new include: easterners (59%); westerners (55%); 18-29 year olds (64%); 50-64 year olds (53%); those who do not consider themselves investor class (51%), members of the military (53%) and African Americans (88%).

The two candidates are in a dead heat among Catholics. Remember that Bill Clinton won Catholics by double-digits and Al Gore beat Bush 51%-46% among Catholics in 2000.

Bush leads Kerry among self-identified investors by only 7 points (51%-44%). Remember that he needs to win this group by double-digits

2. 11/2 cannot come soon enough for me.
Heck 1/25/05 too for that matter. I still get uneasy with all this talk of postponing elections.

3. Correction.
Presidents are always sworn in January 20, not 25, no?

10. Double Digits With Investors? Dream On!
This member of the "investor class" sure won't be making that happen, nor are many wealthy people I come in contact with...most who call themselves Republican...but of the country club/fiscal conservative type.

A lot of these people are pissed royal at Bunnypants for allowing the market to tank (wiping out millions that a tax cut never quite made up), running up a defecit that is fueling a recession that started the day that boy walked in the door (and you won't find a true fiscal conservative who will argue with that) and the smarmy secret deals and no-bid contracts that they feel help just Bunnypant's friends.

If there's a resentment about Kerry, it's the long-held fears that Democrats will raise taxes and they'll only deal with their corporate buddies; punishing these people despite them not really supporting this regime. This will be an interesting group to watch in the weeks ahead.

Zogby is excellent...there's no out-lying or fake models here. Remember he was one of the few that called it for Gore in 2000.

11. The best news is 64% dissatisfied among 18-29 year olds
Supposedly our voter registration has been heavily focused on the young. If we get anything close to that margin among 18 -24 Kerry should cruise. That 18-24 group is pathetically uninvolved, 31% voting in 2000 and in the low 20% in many key states like New Mexico.

Zogby's military number is either way off or short term misleading. Bush will carry very close to 60% of the military vote, if not slightly more.

14. Bush may very well get 60% of the military.
All the poll says is that they're looking for someone new, not that they're finding that someone in Kerry.
