I watched 9/11 the third time/ People be aware!
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 12:15 AM by elf
this time on DVD casual at home with my hubby (he saw it the first time)

We Germans watch it very different, than Americans!!!
Our generation is raised to be very sensitive and be very much alert to early signs of going into the wrong direction.

Fascism is always starting like this................

We are scared and never thought, it will happen again.

We moved 8 years ago and got our Green Card a year ago (we employed 1200 Americans).

We planned to stay 2 years, changed our mind, applied for Green Card and wanted to be citizens in 5 years.

Now we are planning to go back to Europe, when Bush is reelected.

We always said, they voted for him without knowing..........

But when he is reelected they all know and then it's not possible anymore, to say, there is a difference between The Administration and The Americans..............
reminds us what happened in Germany in the 30th, they all didn't know...............

:scared:

2. Gosh, that's sad, but I can't say that I blame you for wanting
to leave. We are heading in the wrong direction, but I have faith in Americans to do the right thing; it takes them a while to wake up, but they are fighting bears when disturbed. If Bush gets re-elected, he will be out of office within a year - impeached and most likely up for trial. I hate to see good people leave this country, but, like I said, I can't really blame you. I am glad you were here for the good times under Clinton; we'll have them again as soon as this nightmare is over.

7. see, you are so right
my husband said ( physicist very smart :-)), it might be better Bush is reelected, then he has to be accountable for all the deadly mess he created and might get impeached.
BUT he can cover a lot and account supreme judges when reelected..............

He just can't be reelected, I love this land too much to watch this oldest Democracy going down by this Bush Mafia

20. The judges are the scary part.
The powers that they hold are incredible. And the checks that other branches of govt hold over them are sooooo weak.

If anything remotely controversial passes in Congress, it ends-up before the US Supreme Court. If an executive order is controversial, it ends-up before the USSC. If an election hinges on an interpretation of the law, the USSC ends-up having to make a call on it. Environmental laws. Human rights. Police powers. War powers. Environmental policy. Educational policy. Budget policy. Economic policy. Privacy rights. The pursuit of happiness. Equal protection. The court's power is awesome and cannot be understated.

As it stands now, I'm looking at 3 or 4 possible retirements:
1) Stevens - liberal. The court's oldest member. Serving since 1976. Wife's been begging him to retire.
2) O'Connor - retirement rumors abound. Swing vote.
3) Rehnquist - also in his 80's. Served since 1973. Conservative.
4) Ginsburg - liberal. History of cancer; recurrence concerns hover overhead.

If those four retire, the court would have this makeup left over:
Conservative (2): Thomas & Scalia
Swing (1): Kennedy
Liberal (2): Breyer & Souter

If Bush gets 3 of the 4 replacement appointees to be Scalia clones, we're looking at a 5-2-2 Fascist court.

If Kerry gets 3 of the 4 replacement appointees to be Souter clones, we're looking at a 5-2-2 Liberal court.

As far as I'm concerned, this is THE biggest issue by far in this election. It's a shame that more folks aren't giving it a more thorough look.

4. yes--I think it is
a very good idea for you to have an exit plan just in case.

I am glad that we have people here who recognize the onset of fascism and can point it out for those who are not as aware.

Maybe it would be good to discuss more of the ways that this administration is like the rise of Nazi Germany....I think everyone needs to hear this!

links. The last link Germany In 1933: The Easy Slide Into Fascismin particular should be a wake-up call to America. While most accounts of history are told retrospectively, the book "Defying Hitler", is an eyewitness account written in 1939 of the social and cultural conditions by German journalist Sebastian Haffner.

The book reviewer, Bernard Weiner states:
The manuscript was found, stuffed away in a drawer, by Haffner's son in 1999 after his father's death at age 91. Published in 2000, the book became an immediate best-seller in Germany and was published last year in English.
...
What distinguishes "Defying Hitler," in addition to its superb writing, is that Haffner focuses on "little people" like himself, rather than on the machinations of leaders. He wants to explore how ordinary Germans, especially non-Nazi and anti-Nazi Germans, permitted themselves to be swallowed whole into the Hitlerian maw.

The book is available at Amazon
-----------------
While, not an American but a neighbour to the north, we do see and feel the rise and reach of the sinister b*sh policy propagating like a virus -- each day stronger than the day before.

Every Friday, I take my 91 yr old father (former RCAF POW) to a Canadian legion for his weekly card game. Its like being thrown into a 1939 time-warp. The commentary on b*sh and his followers likened to Hitler and his Nazis is truly frightening -- THEY REMEMBER ...like it was yesterday.

Thank you again F_B, I treasure these links

The Internet(s) (Bush said: there are rumors on the internets, when he was asked about drafting))

The internet is already something they didn't know how powerful it is.

These nuts are not knowledgeable about new tech.
Rumsfeld was shocked, when he learned, that pictures where token from Abu Graib - torture! After that, the soldiers had to hand them in their cell phones!!!

16. The scary thing: Don't think they won't come after a free internet if
they succeed in staying in office. The internet has been a much bigger tool for the Dems than the Repubs this election (fundraising, organizing etc.) and the Repubs were caught off guard. If they stay in, they will either try to make up the gap, or, more likely, try to get control over the internet and prevent us making good use of it.

10. I'm German-American, been back to Hesse twice to visit cousins.
I have heard them explain how they got caught up in the jingoism, how they were duped to think that Hitler was leading them to economic recovery, but when they realized they had helped to create a monster by keeping silent, it was too late....the borders were sealed.

We have had our Reichstag Fire, our Leni Riefenstahl and Goebbels propaganda, and with the invasion of Iraq, our "Poland", so I place the USA on the Nazi timeline at around late 1939.

FOUR MORE YEARS puts us at 1943. If you think 9/11 was bad, wait until we get our "Dresden"!

Bush must be defeated.

Then we know and we are equally guilty.

But, if he is, he won't be elected fairly. I can understand you wanting to run. You can.

I can't. This is my country. And BushCo must be fought in all the small places they first seized power.

13. I have been waiting
for Germans to weigh in on this fear. As an German-American I also was raised to suspect much of what was happening around me. I have been involved with friends who are fundies and they have talked about things that began to worry me years ago. Now it is happening. I have never wanted another event that could make me ashamed of who I am. Unfortunately - the bushies have not asked me. I will be trying to stop them on Nov. 2.

31. I don't remember seeing any slums in Germany.
I have taken trains all over Germany and even from my coach window, never saw sub-standard housing or trash. Contrast that to taking a train in the US (the few dirty ones that are left) and you go through the worst areas of housing and manufacturing blight (closed factories w/broken windows, jobs gone overseas).

Those many Americans who have never been beyond our borders and think our scheiss doesn't stink should get out and travel more. There are many places, even in Mexico where I could easily live.

This is a great nation, but there are many other great nations. We have become arrogant thinking we are #1.

And have been in the streets since before his criminal innauguration.

What I want to know is how to prevent it from happening again. Aside from the obvious. But I do appreciate your concern, believe me...he is a danger to the whole world, as are his rabid followers. We have to de-program them.
