3. Hey, it worked when Poppy Bush beat Dukakis in '88 remember.

"He's a card-carrying member of the American Civil
Liberties Union."

But this is only the first ring of their desperation.
The worst is yet to come.

5. Sigh...
Why do we live in a society where being liberal is considered a bad thing, and being conservative is regarded as a plus?

Main Entry: <2>liberal
Function: noun
Date: 1820
: a person who is liberal: as a : one who is open-minded or not strict in the observance of orthodox, traditional, or established forms or ways

Yeah, being open-minded is a really terrible thing. Of course, these are the people who think being unwavering from an incorrect viewpoint is better than weighing the options.

From what my parents have told me, it started with Regan
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 01:33 AM by UCLA Dem
My mom said she cried when Regan was elected because he portrayed liberals as complete moral degenerates.

The Repukes have (over the last few decades) infused what the religious right thinks is moral into what they define as moral.

Therefore the most narrow-minded, bigoted sect in the country has been allowed to define those who embrace tolerance, diversity and change hence liberal as terrible people bent on the destruction of our society.

Since they are "Godly," then they have to right to say who is or is not moral. Makes you sick, huh?

6. It doesn't work
not on me, anyway. You want to call me liberal? I'll yell out "THANK YOU!" and give you a bear hug for calling me that. I LOVE it! I've been a liberal my whole life and I'm proud of it, too.

Shit, they are getting desperate.

Oooooo, he called him a LIBERAL? Oh the horrors! LOL!

Can you imagine a Dem doing that? "He's a....a.....CONSERVATIVE!"

::crickets chirping::

People would respond with "yeah? And?"

Just like they probably are with this, except for bush's base who already are supporting bush.

It's either the bush campaign luring in freepers or it's one pathetically bush-obsessed girl.

8. "Liberal" is only a "dirty word" if we allow it to be.
Rightwingnuts use the term "liberal" as an insult; thus OBVIOUSLY they lvoe the OPPOSITE DEFINITIONS of liberal, which include:

STINGY

GREEDY

NARROW

MEAN-SPIRITED

UNGENEROUS

Yes, rightwingnuts, you're correct...you ARE the opposite of LIBERAL. I feel sorry for you.

10. Kerry shot down that argument wonderfully in the debate
"Let's not use labels"

And then he goes into "Compassionate Conservative, what's that?"

That labeling goes both ways.

Although, Dukakis tried that tact against Bush, Sr. in the '88 debates.

12. I thought that was great too.
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 01:39 AM by UCLA Dem
As for what happened in '88, I think the Kerry camp is running a much better campagin. That was (of course) and emfamous election and we studied it in my political psych class last year.

Kerry is not allowing Shrub to define him, which part of what happened in '88. He's also a vet., so that gives him credibility. Becasue of that Bushco couldn't just brand him as a Northern Liberal.

14. Pardon me for noticing...
but wasn't freeing the slaves a liberal concept? I believe Lincoln was a Republican, but still. Also, wasn't woman's voting a liberal idea? Income Tax? National Parks? Weren't the original signers of the Declaration and the Constitution technically liberal? By spewing hatred of liberals, is Bush not in fact spewing hatred of the original Americans? People like Washington, Jefferson, Hancock? Seems to me that Bush hates America.

How cyclical that America began with a George and is close to ending with a George.
