Proposed $9.95, 3 hour "Michael Moore Pre-Election Special" on 11/1

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Filmmaker Michael Moore and the distributors behind "Fahrenheit 9/11" are in talks to bring his anti-Bush documentary to pay-per-view television on the eve of the U.S. presidential election, a source in Moore's camp said on Friday.

The plan under discussion would present the movie as part of a three-hour telecast titled "The Michael Moore Pre-Election Special," carried by pay-TV distributor iN Demand Networks, said a source close to the Fellowship Adventure Group, which holds rights to the film.

The Nov. 1 program would air between 8 and 11 p.m. EST, with the pay-per-view giant charging $9.95 for the telecast, the person said, confirming details of a proposed deal first reported in the entertainment trade paper Daily Variety.

The prospective telecast would package Moore's controversial film together with interviews of politically active celebrities, according to Variety.

3. I should add this it MIGHT help rally the base, though, and ensure
people go to the polls. So in that sense it might be helpful.

4. PPV? No Sale Here
Sorry, I'm not throwing money at my overcharging cable company (that donates mostly to Repugnicans) to see a movie I've already seen in the theater and have on a DVD. I'm sure I'm not the only one here that feels that way.

If Moore's gonna show F911, it needs to be done on over-the-air FREE television. This may require setting up a make-shift network, or buying time...which I would more than gladly donate to...that may reach a few souls that haven't seen it yet (Repugnicans who wouldn't be caught dead seeing it in a theater full of us "stoned slackers" or be caught in a video store buying it, but may sneak a peak if it's on the tube for free.

Let's see how this Sinclair thing plays out. If those assholes go ahead with their plans to air Bunnypants propaganda on the eve of the election, we can make a lot of noise on our own. Just keep eyes and ears open at this point...the GOOP has overplayed many of their cards this election and I expect this one will be among one of their most blatant.

Don't count on the media to help. As Dem Strategist said and should be no surprise, the "mainstream media" (corporate media) is as much the enemy as Bunnypants...even more now.

5. Well said!
FSTV and LINKTV would be great places to air F911 and Going Upriver, but I don't think cable offers those stations. I get them on DISHTV.

Without a media revolution we don't get all that far, even with Kerry in office. This election has made that all to obvious.

6. It's Gotta Be Free TV
This is the only way we can reach the few undecided minds or maybe reach some of the few reasonable Repugnicans left who haven't seen this movie or others than has now been proven even more truthful thanks to the Dulfer report.

We can't expect these people to come to us, we must go to where they are, and that's on any and all TVs. Being on over-the-air TV also forces cable operators to carry the movie as well (Must Carry rules) where a basic or premium cable channel isn't. An unfriendly cable operator can simply block even a free cable broadcast, but if it's on free TV it MUST be carried on their system or face some of the stiffest fines.

I can't say how much I think it's time to organize and create the networking to challenge the media status quo. Hopefully others here are now getting energized as well...especially those with the exerience and resources that could help in challenging station licenses and investigating all aspects of broadcast deregulation.

I've suggested an area here on DU for that purpose, not sure it's gonna happen with the furious pace of things around here, and I'm no Don Quixote...but if there are others interested in really investigating what can be done here, please PM me...let's set up shop in the Media or Activism forums as a "staging area" and go from there.

Cheers!
