Kerry's psychological strengths and weaknesses in the last debate
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 09:48 AM by PeaceForever
From the standpoint of psychlogical subcommuniction, below were what Kerry did well and what he needs to improve.

Kerry's strengths:

- Directly looked at Bush and addressed him as being wrong the first and last time they spoke to each other and not the crowd.
- Wasn't afraid to do something someone in audience called him on when he promised no new taxes for people making less than $200k.
- Taller than Bush
- History. Has been in combat for real.
- Quicker wit on issues.

Kerry's weaknesses/things I hope his debate coaches work with him on:
- Refused to answer questions and move on. Instead would keep going back to the same conversation thread over and over. (This tends to convey discomfort, as you're trying TOO HARD to make a particular impression.)
- Name dropping to try to seem congruent with the office of president. When someone namedrops in the "I already know all these people you haven't even heard of" style, it comes off as insecure.
- Weak posture with hand placement (possibly due to Kerry's blue blood background).
- Shaking his head up and down very slightly when Bush was making a bad point about him. This is a nervous habit on the part of Kerry that he needs to eliminate totally!
- Though he's taller than Bush, he LEANED IN when they shook hands. This is always a mistake when it's done because it shows that you're too eager to shake hands with the person. (If you notice Bush, he'll never lean in to people he greets, other than one time when he had downcast eyes upon meeting the Queen of England.)
- Overall FUCKED UP the debate as they only glossed over domestic issues (Kerry's stongpoint). The rest of the time was more repetitive foreign policy that makes the average American's eyes glaze over.

1. If you noticed, Edwards had none of these weaknesses....
other than returning to previous conversation threads.
Kerry was superior to Bush, but am I the only one who wishes the ticket were reversed?? I bet not.

4. I think his point was that it's a little late now to be talking like that.
Right now, the race is down to Kerry and Bush. Maybe Kerry is not the BEST person in the country to be running for President, but he's the one we've got. Saying "this person would be better than Kerry" is a waste of time.

5. I see that point.
But I would hate to think the die has been cast for the next eight years, with Edwards as the #2 man.

6. The 23 posts don't help
You don't want to sound like a freeper troll with a low post count. No one will take you seriously.

And less than a month before the election is not the dandiest time to wish for a different candidate.

10. Nope, they got it right
I actually wondered the same thing at one point, mainly because I do know how America loves a personality guy. And with all the Swift garbage, I did think about it. But the debate season (and the last few weeks of Kerry press conferences) have changed all that. I think without a doubt that Kerry is the man to head this ticket. I love Edwards and was thrilled when Kerry chose him. Still am thrilled with the ticket. But I think the order of the two is just right. Honestly, if Kerry/Edwards can't beat Bush/Cheney, I just don't think anyone could have. Let's just hope they can get through all the slime that the right is about to start flinging in a desperate attempt to put their man back in office.

7. Yeah, nitpick Kerry and excuse Bush's torrent of LIES
Kerry didn't choose the questions. Charlie Gibson did. Gibson front-loaded the debate with questions about Iraq.

Meanwhile, PeaceForever, you ignored the fact that Bush seemed to be jacked up on some kind of a stimulant, which wore of about an hour into the debate.

Go to Cheney's favorite website for a review of Bush's lies in the debate:
