Take a look, ok? Just look at it objectively for a moment.

Now, with this shit commercially available, why would they strap a goddamn refrigerator to his back that is IMPOSSIBLE to conceal? They wouldn't. Besides, if the asshole was wired, he'd be doing a helluva lot better in the debates.

My theory: It's a vest. They don't want to admit it because it makes him look scared and weak. After all, everyone loves him, so why would he need a vest? You see where I'm coming from? There's something on his back, no question, but it's no listening device.

What is so goddamned hard about that. The press is making this an issue, not the Democratic Party, so let them. Bush does give weird press conferences, has for a long time. If the media's running with this, they can't run with something against Kerry. Fine by me. Seems like a win, win to me.

12. Agree
I think it's a vest - the president normally speaks from behind an armoured, bullet-proof podium. At the first debate, Bush did not use the White House podium, but the podium provided by the Debate Commission and, therefore, was not as protected as he normally is. It would certainly be reasonable for the Secret Service to have him wear a vest under the circumstances.

Not a big deal.

26. Then Kerry should have been given a vest to wear too
That is probably the second reason why they don't want it to come out that Bush wore a vest to the debate. If the situation was that dangerous, that the security folks thought it best that W wear a vest, then they should have had the decency to let Kerry know and offer him the same protection. Somehow, I doubt if they did.

Keep in mind they had announced two days before the debate, that al Qaeda was planning an attack in Miami to disrupt the debate. So they definitely admitted to having 'security concerns'.

So based on these 'security concerns', if W wore a vest and Kerry didn't, it really does make W look like shit.

41. The issue is not the equivalence of risk, but the difference in result
They may be at the same risk, but the risk to the nation as a result of their deaths is very different.

The death of a candidate, while tragic and disruptive pales in comparison to the impact on our national security and world events caused by the death of a president. A president's security is always conducted at a much more intense level than that of a candidate.

When it comes to things such as vests, candidates are usually offered one and usually decline (in fact, they're allowed to decline must types of security and can even decline Secret Service protection altogether, if they choose). A president, on the other hand, does not have as much leeway to decline security measures. It is quite possible that he was strongly urged to wear a vest (since they can't rip his shirt off and MAKE him put it on). If he refused, Service probably was prepared to compensate by imposing other security measures that would have been even more disruptive and problematic from a political perspective (like insisting that they stand on the stage within closer proximity, rather than staying out of camera range, as they did).

44. Even if Kerry was offered and refused
that would still make Bush look like a coward. However, I think the WH is in high denial because no one bothered to give Kerry the choice.

Plus, this close to an election the risk to the nation if either candidate was to be attacked or killed, would be have a very grave impact on our country and certainly the election.

56. How do you know Kerry wasn't given the choice?
This is not something that is controlled by the White House. These kinds of things are dealt by the individual candidate's security detail. It is very likely that if Kerry's agents thought there was any danger, they would have suggested he wear a vest. It was up to him whether he did or not.

An attack on Kerry would have a serious impact. But the president is more than a candidate - he is the Commander-in-Chief and head of state. An attack on him would have much more far-reaching and grave consequences for the nation and the world. This just is not the case with a presidential candidate. That's why they are NEVER given the same level of protection as the president. If Kerry wins, his protection would be stepped up the second the returns are in.

15. If that were so, all they need to say is...
"Senior government officials have always wore protective devices and communication devices. This is not something new."

Then go for the fear factor: "Since 9 11, the need for high government officials to be equipped with the best security devices is of utmost importance."

Who wouldn't understand that angle?

The problem is that no one seemed to notice Cheney with a hump at the debate. No one seemed to notice any ticks or strange speech patterns with Cheney.

No one has ever, to my knowledge, picked up any strange audio sounds associated with Cheney in his numerous appearances.

It's only Puppet Boy.

Why is that?

It would be far better to take that angle than to keep this going and have the tailor,Georgie of Paris, say that it was a "pucker."

I wish they would start a Thread 1 ,thread 2 for the Earpiece stuff.

We must have at least 5 going right now.

28. No they can't
see my post above.

Under normal circumstances they could get away with that explanation. But this was one of the rares time that both Candidates are together. So if Bush was in danger, so was Kerry. If Bush needed a vest, then Kerry needed one too. Did they even let Kerry know that he should wear a vest? This is why they can't admit it, even if Bush did.

38. I agree that is why it is not a vest/brace
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 11:17 AM by goclark

Have you ever seen Bush get off a plane carrying Barney?

Barney has got to be 20/30 pounds!
I have a ten pound dog and even with a wrist brace, I can not pick him up like Barney is picked up by Bush.

Remember, that this manly man races on his bike( have not seen ANY pictures yet), he falls all over the place, gets bruises on his face but he is still ,"Da Man."

Anybody that would need a brace like that for 90 minutes, needs to sit down all the time. Why didn't they demand a sit down situation for the debates?

If it was a brace, they could easily say that " all those many years of running like a man every day, sometimes he needs a back brace."

But they have not.

Why not? They have to get through this last debate, that's why!

They are letting this story float, take the heat, to get through the last debate.

If the pressure gets to tight this weekend, they may float out another little story.

Another thing, people say they "would not be stupid enough to let Puppet Boy be wired. I disagree.

Remember, these are the same people that stole a national election, went to war without a reason and they are still in office. Why wouldn't they think they could get away with a minor little thing like this?

Remember they own the media, they have the power. They are the "Kings Of The World."

Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 10:36 AM by NinetySix
From the NY Times:

>snip<

"There was nothing under his suit jacket," said Nicolle Devenish, a
campaign spokeswoman.

"It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a
wrinkle in the fabric."

Ms. Devenish could not say why the "rumpling" was rectangular.

Nor was the bulge from a bulletproof vest, according to campaign and
White House officials; they said Mr. Bush was not wearing one.

29. They can't admit it if it's a vest
Because it makes him look like a coward if Kerry wasn't wearing one, and plays into:

his actions to stay out of Vietnam, when Kerry volunteered to go
his loyalty oath requirements at rallies, when Kerry invites everyone
his reputation of being paranoid of the common man, Kerry's reputation of embracing the masses

It's a fear vs. courage issue that they can't afford to reveal. What kind of president is afraid of his own constituents?

And what kind of president doesn't have faith in his secret service - supposedly the most elite of the security detachments - to be able to protect him in a controlled environment where everyone was prescreened and (presumably) went through security checks?

why would Scrubby wear a wire?

A tiny little receiver planted in his ear would be much more sensible. Rove could just sit backstage and transmit - unless the transmissions could be jammed.

Anyway, if Bu$h was wearing a wire, and his performance in the debate was still as whiny, confused, and pathetic as it was the other night, he is either more inept than many of us thought, or we should find out who the Democrat is who was transmitting all that goofy information to Bu$h, and send this guru a thank-you note as a token of our appreciation.

39. Sorry... I disagree with you completely!
Look at the device at the bottom of this linked page:

http://www.spyworld.com/Surveil5_LawEnforcement.htm

That is EXACTLY the shape, and size, of what was under his jacket.. AND.. the antennae is exactly the shape of the wierd cord looking thing.

Why are you so hellbent to say he wasn't wired? Isn't this like the second thread you've started on this? Bush did awfully that night because he was waiting for the voice to talk to him.. that's why he sounds like that every time he has to speak without notes.. he's waiting.. and he's blurting out phrases. THAT'S why he blurted out LET ME FINISH to no one in particular, and when he was in NO danger of running out of time.

The last debate, he did not have a wire.. because his jacket was tailored COMPLETELY different. Find the two photos, and compare them.. the second debate, his jacket is beautifully tailored, and clings to his back, all the way down.. the first time, it was loose and sticking out wierd. It's not a vest. Vest's don't have rectangular boxes between the shoulder blades, and they dismissed that idea.. that is something they'd admit, because it would make him look BRAVE, showing up for the debate, despite risks to his person. Hell.. if he doesn't wear a vest during campaign speeches, with a few hundre people out in the open air, WHY would he wear it in a totally controlled atmosphere. It's a box.

49. Salon quotes an expert on these devices who agrees with you.
"So what was it? Jacob McKenna, a spyware expert and the owner of the Spy Store, a high-tech surveillance shop in Spokane, Wash., looked at the Bush image on his computer monitor. "There's certainly something on his back, and it appears to be electronic," he said. McKenna said that, given its shape, the bulge could be the inductor portion of a two-way push-to-talk system. McKenna noted that such a system makes use of a tiny microchip-based earplug radio that is pushed way down into the ear canal, where it is virtually invisible. He also said a weak signal could be scrambled and be undetected by another broadcaster."

My guess would be that he knows a hell of a lot more about these devices than we do.

A TENS unit is the right size to make that lump. With the fact that this fool can't stay on his feet it isn't out of the realm that he hurt his back. If he falls that much in public how many times has he fallen when there aren't cameras trained on him?

What is TENS?
T.E.N.S stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. It’s is a drug-free alternative for managing pain. For the past twenty years, doctors have been prescribing it as an effective way to relieve pain. It offers many people safe comforting relief. It reduces and often even eliminates pain. It is FDA approved, and it is reimbursable by most insurance providers.

How Does TENS Work?
This electrotherapy was designed to relieve pain by sending gentle electrical impulses through the skin to the nerves. This suppresses pain by blocking the pain signals before they reach the brain

57. I got a TENS for a bum shoulder & one time I left it on
for about 45 minutes & my muscle was like a rock
the next day. IOW, I left it on too long. Can't
imagine leaving one on for at least two hours or
more. Although it IS the right size and does have
wires.

When it's medication time, he can inject himself as needed.

58. how about this
They would have to make sure that the signal was secure, that no one else picked it up, thereby blowing their ruse and ending Bush's career.

Perhaps he smaller ones aren't secure enough. Remember they'd have to hide it from the SS and all the other law enforcement there - from everyone. Thus, the only 'wire' that was up to the job of such total security was a little bulkier than most...

I have no idea - just a thought.
