It's still the media, folks.... |
|
Just as Democratic_Strategist stated a few weeks ago. If John Kerry had acted the way Bush did against Charlie Gibson in the last debate, they would have already written him off as not mentally capable to be the president of the US. However, they let Bush slide. Just as they let him slide with all his foolish and embecilic comments.
And, no matter how well a candidate may do, the media retains the power to destroy him whenever they choose. We do not only have to beat Bush, we have to beat the groveling, greedy media that props him up, also. That's just the way it is. If we did not have the Internet to hold them somewhat accountable, where would the media be today?

and even if the Dems get a majority in one or both houses because of Kerry's coattails, we still need to keep at them to get control of the big media conglomerates.

5. We're not the ones trying to "control" the media |
|
They are. And they're doing a hell of a job at it.
The "librul media" mantra has worn very thin. It's time to bring back the fairness doctrine Ray-gun destroyed.

12. Not "control the media," |

but control the media conglomerates, as in keep them from further concentrating their power over all public discourse in this country. The Fairness Doctrine is exactly the sort of thing that was used at one time to keep the power of the corporate media under control.

this morning said that after the last debate, Bush's supporters all gathered around him and Kerry was just sort of all by himself. That isn't what I saw!

Paul Krugman, et al., would write a scathing column pointing out what would have happened to Kerry if he had behaved that way.
I wish.

7. It's not just the media!!!!! |
|
It's the Democratic spokepeople. The media will only pursue this stuff as reporting what each side says. They don't view it as their job to bring up these things as part of reporting.
The Democrats continually FAIL to pursue things like this. The Democrats always have a tin ear to image issues. The Repugs let NO item go uncriticized--and they all read from the same playbook.
I guarantee that if every Democrat who spoke about the debate always made a strong point about Bush*s behavior and stupid language mistakes, it would get out.

We cannot depend on the media to carry our water for us in instances such as this. We have to have spokespeople speak out.

9. Can you imagine the heyday that the media would be having if a |

Democratic candidate for president showed the emotional roller-coaster ride that has been * in the last two debates? They'd be doing 24/7 analysis on all the cable news networks with psychologists and psychiatrists and voodoo doctors that they could find, claiming that the man was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. There would be hours devoted to what his inability to name a single mistake he has made during his administration says about him mentally. They would be debating on just how crazy he was. But *? He gets a free pass from the media. Face it, Dem Strategist was 100% correct: It is about the messenger and the media are failing us. They are the part of the reason we ended up in the mess that is Iraq. They have done this country, and the world-at-large a great disservice by their ineptitude, their laziness, and in their willingness to sell their souls out to their corporate masters!
